www.harveynichols.com/hnedit/stores/whats-on-stores/leeds-whats-on-store/fashion-evening/

I find it very unpleasant and unsettling but would love to know what other people think

Ugh!

Because when you're trying to sell fashion that's the obvious pose for a woman to strike, clearly. Hmm

It makes me think that the 'indulgent' 'inspiring' fashion and shopping would involve a lot of poking behind random obstacles.

I do not understand why staring at a woman's arse would make me want to shop.

And the dress/skirt doesn't go with the shoes, which don't go with the colour scheme in the advert.

Winkly · 13/03/2012 21:04

Actually, looking more closely, she looks like she's leaning over a starter's block at a swimming pool, vomiting into the pool. How odd.

PlumpDogPillionaire · 13/03/2012 21:09

Agree that the colour scheme's very naff, plus horrible shoes and gross ribbing on skirt and disgustingly twee, otherwise really not bothered.
I think it's meant to be 'comedic' or the like.
My understanding is that people (usually women) wear high heels in part to make their arses look cute (well, I do, occasionally, anyway). I guess that's part of the reason for focussing on an arse in the ad. Or maybe it's a joke about wearing high heels and falling over.

Gosh, that's a lot to say about something I really don't care about.

bronze · 13/03/2012 21:12

Do you think she's spent over £100, dunk the bottle and fallen over?

All very odd

GoldenGreen · 13/03/2012 21:17

I can see it is meant to be funny

I just have a "yuk" reaction to it though

Glad some others do too!

I don't even understand it. The shoes are so uncomfortable that she fell over? Confused

PlumpDogPillionaire · 13/03/2012 21:25

Well, Green, you know what they used to say about pink and green ('not fit to be seen'.)
Yes, I too find tedious 'knockabout' physical comedy slightly nauseating - not that I'm joyless, of course
I find the general aesthetic and colour schemes of many clowns and children's entertainers particularly unsettling.

Erm, shouldn't this thread be in Style & Beauty?

CHOOGIRL · 13/03/2012 21:52

I think the point of the ad is to show the soles of the shoes which are Louboutins. Their campaign is targeting a different demographic to MN (young affluent females). IIRC the xmas walk of shame campaign was very successful for them so whilst some may find their ads offensive, their target market don't appear to.

FTR I'm a bit older than their target, but do spend a lot of time in HN. I noticed the shoes, header and date of event before I noticed the skirt.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 13/03/2012 21:53

Is this a WAG on a night out bending over to throw up? Certainly dressedl like one

Lovecat · 13/03/2012 22:11

I don't get it. Needs some sort of strapline if it's meant to be a joke for us thickos.

Hideous dress. I got that the shoes were Louboutins [not a total gimmer] but why such an ugly, uncomfortable pose to show that?

HN known for their insultingly shite controversial ads, however - anyone remember Leeds Leads?

Nyac · 13/03/2012 22:16

It's like those upskirt photos that perves are interested in.

A bit grim.

TeiTetua · 13/03/2012 22:27

The point of advertising is to place something in front of the viewer which will be noticed and remembered.

Success?

EnjoyResponsibly · 13/03/2012 22:33

If it's a joke, I don't get it Tei I'm going to bet you hard currency I won't remember it in about 5 seconds Grin

EnjoyResponsibly · 13/03/2012 22:36

I actually own Louboutins and I don't sit like that unless I've done a free bottle of champagne

MmeLindor. · 13/03/2012 22:47

It is odd. Not quite sure what it is supposed to be. Other than "OMG, I knew those prawns were a bit dodgy".

I like shoes, and this ad would not in any way tempt me to buy these shoes or go to that event.

AnyFucker · 13/03/2012 22:51

Here was me thinking there were plenty of young(ish) affluent females on MN.

What a strangely dismissive comment, choogirl

ladydepp · 13/03/2012 23:04

Advert is pathetic and designed to titillate. I thought HN was a bit more sophisticated TBH.

sunshineandbooks · 13/03/2012 23:04

Nah. We're all old & skint. Grin

AnyFucker · 13/03/2012 23:06

ladydepp, dontcha know, money doesn't buy you class Grin

LineRunner · 13/03/2012 23:09

That advert is crass, patronising and cheap.

thecarbonaraPan · 13/03/2012 23:09

Well the crampons on the shoe tips aren't working very well at all, are they?

CHOOGIRL · 13/03/2012 23:38

Should have known better than to post on this section. So easy to cause offence where none intended I know that MN has a wide demographic. The OP asked for opinions. Was just trying to say it's a campaign that appears to be successful with their target audience (female) even though some others (female and male) may find it offensive.

AnyFucker · 13/03/2012 23:47

choogirl, there is only me that appears to be slightly taken aback with your sweeping statement (which you have just misrepresented), so there is no need for you to take issue with a whole section

unless you want to of course, that is your prerogative
