Here

They're floating Dorries nutjob plan or publicly funding anti abortion counsellors.

So cutting funding for Domestic Violence refuges that try to offer protection to women and children is a necessity, but finding funds for those who oppose abortion to offer counselling to those seeking an abortion is ok?

Yet another proof, if proof were needed, that this government is overtly anti-women.

Bloody tories.

swallowedAfly · 24/02/2012 22:10

madness but utterly within the interior logic of this coalitions value loaded politics.

VictorGollancz · 25/02/2012 07:59

My MP hates women. I've written to him over and over again on this issue, but he always writes back with some bollocks about 'healthcare' and puts 'Mrs VG' on the envelope.

We need some real action on this. Does anyone know of anything that's being organised?

Thanks. Perhaps there will be something in Manchester that I can get to!

AThingInYourLife · 25/02/2012 08:38

"They may also be required to make clear to clients any ethical stance they held on abortion." (my emphasis)

Angry
ForkInTheForeheid · 25/02/2012 08:57

not defending the proposals at all athing but the way i read it that was almost a concession (i.e. At least the woman would know the counsellor's viewpoint rather than believing them to be neutral).

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 25/02/2012 09:09

How depressing.

AThingInYourLife · 25/02/2012 09:14

That's how I read it too ForkIn - like there's still a good chance women looking for abortion counselling will be directed to pro-lifers for counselling without being told.

I grew up in Ireland, where pro-life groups set up "pregnancy advisory services" that pretended to be neutral and then bullied vulnerable women who came looking for help.

It's fucking shameful that these monsters might be given a foothold in the civilised place that still offers thousands of Irish women every year a way out of the barbaric misogyny of their constitution.

Not to mention all the other women of Britain who should not have this bullshit inflicted on them. Or the women of Northern Ireland who are nit entitled to the same care on the NHS as women from other parts if the UK.

SayBoo · 25/02/2012 09:16

Very worrying. I got a circular email form Abortion Rights this morning. Really depressing.

flippinada · 25/02/2012 12:36

This is just bloody awful.

Giving money to this sort of thing and cutting funds to DV services?

This govt really do hate women don't they.

TakingBackSaturday · 25/02/2012 13:25

Aren't we supposed to have an equality minister?

Theresa May, why aren't you doing your job?

PenguinArmy · 26/02/2012 14:53

DH wrote to DC about a year ago. The letter he got back very much made the point that the Tories as a party did not agree with Dorries and what she represented Hmm

so not like the Tories to say one thing and then do the opposite.

LittleWhiteWolf · 26/02/2012 15:12

I don't know why I'm even posting...there aren't even words to describe how horrified I am by this. Sad
Not surprised though. Just utterly disheartened and just plain fucked off.

NarkedPuffin · 26/02/2012 16:06

If your MP isn't hardcore anti-abortion it might be worth writing them an email expressing concern.

OP posts:
NarkedPuffin · 26/02/2012 16:08

Penguin, maybe your DH could send a copy of the letter back to DC as a reminder Grin

HandDivedScallopsrgreat · 26/02/2012 17:18

No no no no no! Why did I ever think that the coalition might work

Why can't they just leave women to have rights over their own body, you know, like men do.

PenguinArmy · 26/02/2012 17:27

That's a good idea but the letter got thrown out in our housemove

PenguinArmy · 26/02/2012 17:28

meant to add :(

weird thing was DH sent it on twitter but got reply in the mail
