Don't know if this is appropriate but it's the only female duet I could think of. . Might trigger your brain maybe?

The only answer surely is - assuming of course you can belt it out like Annie and Aretha!

Depending on the mood of the event, is fun and funny (and probably most enjoyed after some of that wine!)

There's also Helen Reddy's Now THAT'S an inspiring song (and I remember watching this Midnight Special version when I was still a tiddler and probably should have been in bed!

Can't remember the title but it starts off with the words 'Sometimes it's hard to be a woman'.

tribpot · 19/02/2012 18:26

lollygag, I think you probably mean Stand By Your Man. It has lyrics that are less than empowering.

lollygag · 19/02/2012 18:29

That's the one! I love that song.

We do love a wind up merchant, so we do.

Thanks guys will do a bit of googling. It is difficult as I would be one for doing something funny but not really sure what the audience will expect.

I think that's another thread.

I am woman is a great song.I like the Pro-Life sentiment.

KRITIQ · 19/02/2012 20:01

Oh, you are such a hoot lolly - either that or you haven't read the lyrics, or aren't aware that of the writer, Helen Reddy's pro choice political views. Such a josher you are!

lollygag · 19/02/2012 20:10

It's the lyrics - 'But I'm still am embryo, with a long long way to go.'

tribpot · 19/02/2012 20:18

On the face of it, organising an evening to celebrate International Women's Day does sound like the sort of thing that in a Jilly Cooper novel would be celebrated by earnest, un-made-up women in kaftans, all farting from too much lentil curry and calling Rupert Campbell-Black a capitalist oppressor. Music would thus be the latest ear-splitting composition of Dame Enid/Edith Spink (Jilly forgets her name after one book) and then perhaps a chorus of 'We Shall Overcome', accompanied on the fairtrade, organic guitar.

I'm not sure of the political correctness of the lyrics but Shirley Maclaine in gives one hell of a performance!

Or how about (I'm on a roll now) 'You Don't Own Me' as performed here by Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn and Diane Keaton. dubbed into French (except for the singing) - clearly the writers of the translation thought the song was called 'you don't know me'.
