Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Ryanair ads banned, Ryanair give great example of why IMO "choice" feminism is a crock or something or other

I didn't see the ads but can imagine from the description:

here

So that's a woohoo for the ASA but an Angry that they were published in the first place.

And how's this for a great example of why many feminists (including me) think choice feminism is a load of twaddle:

"Ryanair said since crew members volunteered to take part, it could not be seen to objectify women."

Balderdash, is what I say Smile

Given the reported staff relations at Ryanair the term "volunteer" must be looked at with caution. Even then it's still a ludicrous proposition.

I don't know much about them TBH but had heard something about it being questionable whether something else was truly voluntary - I can't remember what though.

God, what a disgrace! This isn't how women should be portrayed. Well done ASA!

joanofarchitrave · 15/02/2012 14:20

Bloody hell.

I am quite anti censorship on adverts at the moment but... bloody Hell!

so 'if you were a liberated women you'd take your top off' has been replaced by 'it's for charity, take your top off'. How far we have come Sad

My difficulty with the anti[censorship stance is that while I agree in principle that censorship is bad, without it, it's a super-fast race to the bottom common denominator. Even with the rules we have in place things are getting exponentially worse, imagine if you got rid of the rules where we'd be Sad
