...been lurking for a day or so and I've read a lot of past discussions. I'm really pleased to have found a bunch of like minded souls. I consider myself a feminist but struggle with the daily realities sometimes (e.g. when cooking Christmas dinner for everyone having just given my daughters barbie type dolls as gifts Blush). Anyway you guys seem quite forgiving.

I recently read Caitlin Moran's book How to be a Woman, which was being billed as some sort of feminist text, and was disappointed. So read Greer's The Whole Woman - mad in places but spot on in others?? Im still puzzled about some things (like work vs. motherhood) but from reading the posts it seems a lot of us are.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi and hopefully join in in future:)

Hello and welcome. Smile

Welcome to our little corner of Mumsnet BeeBaw. :)

If you're disappointed with wishy-washy feminism (which is all that's allowed to be promoted to women), read Sexual Politics by Kate Millet. No holds barred!

Welcome!

How did you find us, by the way? ( I often wonder that)

I'll second wife work if you are interested in 'domestic' feminism. Also a Greer fan, me.

Wow, thanks for making me feel welcome. I'll definitely try to read some of the books mentioned (although have a mounting pile already). I love to read.

Can't remember how I heard about mumsnet - tv/radio debates maybe? Thought I'd check it out. Honestly expected a bunch of judgemental conservative ladies-who-lunch, but looks like it was me pre-judging Blush. Lots of open minded and intelligent debate. Like the books forums too.

As for the domestic feminism, I'm a working Mum, and I like my job. It's challenging, fairly-paid and flexible. But I love my kids and do sometimes harbour dreams of home-schooling, chickens and jam-making in a country cottage. He, he. Confused

Anyway must put kids to bed. Ta once more for the welcome.

Bee, that is pretty much what I expected before I came on here! Grin

Someone linked me to AIBU and I thought it was hilarious and spent about two days giggling, calling DH to help me take the piss, then, erm ... stayed.

I thought bits of Caitlin Moran were great (especially about teenage sexuality) and one of the great pleasures in life being 'finger combing your wookie'. But other parts just annoyed me.

I don't think it was just badly marketed, it was also over-ambitious and under-edited. In my rather judgy opinion. But I'm glad she wrote it.

Very nice to 'meet' you btw. Smile
