Karen Brady

This came up in the Daily Sport thread. This dirty little publication is now published by David Sullivan - who seems a particularly nasty piece of work to me (read about his exploitation of Mary Millington on Wiki for example).

I have seen Karen Brady held up as a positive role model for business women and there is quite a bit of stuff online about her feminist principles.

For the life of me, however, I can't see how she squares this with a career that owes everything to David Sullivan's patronage!

Positive role model then?

Hang on, if you make a point of singling out a user and using underhand tactics to mock them (which is exactly how two of your posts read when I pulled you up on it) we have EVERY right to address that. It really does feel like the past couple of days, you've been here WITH the intention of stirring things. I doubt I'm the only one who feels like this is the case.

jennyvaultsthewagons · 17/08/2011 15:00

I already stated why I mentioned HerBex and don't intend to repost. This is just cynicism and wilful re-imagining of the motives - the fact that you're not alone in this doesn't make it right.

Karen Brady? No? Oh well - maybe I should start a thread called 'what's wrong with Jenny' Grin

charitygirl · 17/08/2011 15:08

Are people 'stereotyping' you 'labelling' you on the basis of your past posts, do you think? We can't be basing our opinion of you on your looks, age, career, race, or any other status. You're only being judged on your words - which do make you look petty, stirring, and a bit overly-fixated on HerBex (a particular shame here as I'd like to hear others' views on Karen Brady but you were hoping to score posts against HB). And now, we can add self-pitying.

Its hardly unfair to form an opinion of you BASED ON YOUR POSTS is it? Must we erase our memory banks every time you post?

ThePosieParker · 17/08/2011 15:19

Seems like you need to namechange Jenny because posters have already made their minds up about you. Having not read any other thread that hasn't got members of this board pissy...

I wonder if you're trying to be tongue in cheek with the HerBex comment.....

And I gather, from an untrained eye, that you feel slighted by members of the board and are trying to make yourself feel better?

Anyway you obviously have issues you want to discuss and have no chance with 'jenny' in the title.

jennyvaultsthewagons · 17/08/2011 16:06

Oh ffs. Now my new J VtW derivation is a sign of something... Apparently getting exasperated at the derailing of this thread by turning it into a stream of personal abuse is also self-pity.

Did anyone actually read what I wrote about why I mentioned HerBex? I was referencing Karen Brady's actions against what I had percieved as an acknowledged feminist viewpoint (Which - it later occured to me - I may have miss-attributed)! Perhaps someone would like to talk about this?

DirtyMartini · 17/08/2011 20:50

Can see there is a back story to this thread and don't really want to get involved, but as I'm here: isn't it Karren Brady, with two n's?

jennyvaultsthewagons · 17/08/2011 21:02

You're absolutely right DM. Apologies.

Ooh - I can outdo you on pedantry and say "Do you mean two r's?" Grin

DirtyMartini · 18/08/2011 00:46

Ha! So you can. Ah well.

ThePosieParker · 18/08/2011 07:18

I like the woman, I think whilst she may have had to climb upon the shoulders of misogynists to get where she is I'm happy that she promotes women in her own organisation and is vocal about it.

ThePosieParker · 18/08/2011 07:19

Jenny, my first post wasn't an attack but you seem to have your cards marked by some posters and would be better for you to have fresh start. Seems like name changing is the only way to do it.

jennyvaultsthewagons · 18/08/2011 10:42

Posie - ok, I can see how that was an over-defensive response from me, but perhaps you'll understand why given the posts that preceded yours.

Absolutely not changing my name bacause I'm not going to be bullied by a cabal of self-appointed thread guardians.

Ok, so you take a sort of 'ends justify the means' approach? I think this is probably fair, although I still struggle with the ethics of taking the pornographer's dollar. I do agree that it is important for our economic stability that we get more women into top positions, though.

ThePosieParker · 18/08/2011 10:45

I'm not sure without that leg up that she'd be where she is.

jennyvarnishessthewoodwork · 18/08/2011 11:01

Definitely not! Who becomes MD of a major football club at 23 without a leg-up?

I hope this doesn't seem provocative - a genuine question: doesn't the definition of patriarchy include the idea that the system works on a 'who you know, not what you know' concept? I'll accept your point that in getting into boardrooms, Brady is in a position to do a lot of good for women in business, but didn't she use the patriarchy to do it? Therefore, it's because she's a woman that she's applauded for doing it, whereas had she been Sullivan's nephew, say, we'd put it down as another example of power recruiting in its own image.

sayithowitis · 21/08/2011 01:30

hmmm. Do any of you actually work for the woman? Because I think you may have a different view of her if you did!

ThePosieParker · 21/08/2011 08:26

sayit......Why? [genuine curious]

mummymooch · 28/04/2015 10:20
