Anyone see this last night? I thought it fab. What do people think of gay women pole dancing in their scanties for other gay women?

Didn't see it...but it sounds like it might be an excuse to show women in their scanties on the telly. Women in their scanties Now with added Lesbianism!!!

No no, it was a documentary. The Candy Bar is a real place.

Still sounds like an excuse to get women naked/semi-naked on TV. Agree with BTP too.

The Candy Bar was only part of it, there were also other threads. I thought it was quite interesting.

If you think judging women on appearance/sexual attractiveness etc is OK, then fine. As long as you realise there are winners and losers in the competition which inevitably results and the winners actually feel worse/have lower self esteem as well as the losers because we all feel the pressure and self consciousness. Just because women treat women like shit in the same way men do, doesn't make it progressive.

And the pole dancing bit was about five seconds, it wasn't the programme I wanted to talk about, it was the women for women aspect that I thought was interesting.

Yes, the Candy Bar is definitely real - I've been there (not on poledancing night though!)

Not really sure about the women stripping for women thing. It still feels a bit like internalised 'lads mag' culture to me. I don't think that the fact that it's women perving over women makes it any less exploitative. It still encourages the objectification of women. Do the pole dancers only dance at gay nights or are they still working in straight strip clubs the rest of the time?

XP with alice - I definitely agree with that.

Don't agree with it - it's still objectification. The whole world thinks objectifying women (and increasingly men) is ok, gay women are just as likely to conform to that, imo.

Well that's a bit dull (!), you all think the same thing...anyone think differently?

Actually, no, I don't think gay women are 'just as likely to conform' to our misogynistic society. A lot of the gay women I know challenge it, maybe it's a lifetime of challenging norms about women's sexuality/roles etc that's politicised them. Or maybe I'm talking through my arse with this anecdata nonsense again.
