I'm sorry if this has been dome before. I did look Blush

My DS has a lot of Imaginext toys. Now I've got DD I thought it was a good idea to get some female characters so she could identify with them, and also to normalise DS with thinking that girls/ women have a place and a part to play in his games/ role play. You can't get imaginext female characters Shock. At all.

So then I thought, I'll get him some playmobil. He has one playmobil pirate that is female. I have looked, and there do not seem to be any more. Also in the castle sets there are no female characters. The nearest I can get is a mermaid or a princess.

Why do I have to get a 'domestic' setting in order to get female toys? Why can't I get some female characters in 'boys' toys? I am very Angry that I can't get female characters in space, or police, or fire stations. Female playmobil characters seem to be looking after animals or on holiday.

Can someone link any good toys with female characters in them?

The difference between the adult male and female playmobil characters is that the female ones have a bump for the breasts on the torso. That is how you can tell that some of the police, robbers, paramedics and so on are meant to be women.

The male ones (other than some stubble faced vikings and safe crackers) are all pretty androgynous looking, so they could all be either men or small breasted women.

well, that female assassin has certainly brightened my outlook re playmo. :)

DS is super keen on swapping heads and hair around, so we do that already. I was a bit Hmm that all the characters we have by virtue of buying a castle, and boats etc are male. I think that assassin is mine now though!

Im going to try to track down the knight family.

Imaginext is Fisher Price, which I was a bit Angry about as the Little People sets are good for their mix of gender roles IYSWIM.

I like imaginext as the bits are big enough that the baby won't eat them. They don't seem to do an equivalent range that includes female characters. There is a Dora dollhouse (whoop de frigging do)

Why can't my daughter imagine that she can go to space! Why would she have to hold a male doll to do it :(

We have several female police and firefighters, and a female robber, and ambulance and rescue workers. Also some of our hospital staff are female, and there seems to be no real distinction between nurses and doctors, so you can easily have male nurses/female doctors etc.

The captain of the expedition ship is also female (she is called Eleanor in our house).

Agree that playmobil not too bad re. men/women. Am always a bit Hmm about the fact that all the characters that you get with 'standard' farm / school / doctor etc sets are white though - dd's selection is a bit bizarre as a selection of 21st C British people . . .

Both my daughters love vehicles, diggers etc. Whenever they get something with a "male" figure - ie builder/fireman - I just pretend they are women and call them the names of my daughters etc (they are only 2 and 5 though). Remmeber the astronaut may be a woman with short hair.

I get annoyed when the only way in which toys show a female character is to be dressed in pink and/or with a bow in its hair.
