This really threw me when I read it. On the one hand, I think it's fantastic for a government to show a strong commitment to equality (although France is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination), but on the other the decision seems to be a) more nationalistic than feminist and b) highly authoritarian.
I'm not sure which side makes me more uneasy to be honest. I think I'm a feminist, but I wonder if the man had been a European or an American with the same (abhorrent) views, whether he would have been refused nationality in the same way.
What do others think? Is this more straightforward than I think?
