Dominos support pro life

I have always boycotted Dominos and Nestle without fail...who do you boycott and why?

Looks to me like they did up until 1998, so you're not wrong. I don't give a monkeys about the distinction between the owner's money and the company's money. The profits were still headed there.

I boycott (at the moment)
M and S
Hennes
Scriblr

franke · 04/06/2011 14:01

AliceWhirled can you explain why - I'm particularly interested in what Hennes are up to. (Don't have either of the other two where I am)

CrapolaDeVille · 04/06/2011 14:02

Do tell about Hennes....

I also boycott Coca Cola, for their treatment of people in South America.

OnEdge · 04/06/2011 14:03

Is anti abortion the same as anti women then ?

franke · 04/06/2011 14:05

I'm not too keen on Coca Cola either, but because of their water consumption in India Grin (I know it's not funny but it's amazing how one can pick on these multinationals for any number of reasons when they go marching into other countries with their dubious practices)

CrapolaDeVille · 04/06/2011 14:05

I think anti abortion falls under the anti women umbrella....don't you?

franke [confuse] but with a Smile!!

OnEdge · 04/06/2011 14:07

No, because abortion bothers me, but I am a woman.

OnEdge · 04/06/2011 14:08

Its only a gender issue because women are the ones who carry children, if men also carried children I would still be disturbed by abortions.

AliceWhirled · 04/06/2011 14:13

Hennes, cos they have posted huge sexualised pictures of women all over the bus stops in my city.

And Waitrose. Did you know they are the only supermarket left that won't cover up their 'lad's mags' or put them on a higher shelf?

Oh and Lakeland for their catalogues that only show women doing housework.

You've started me off now. I knew there were more Grin

CrapolaDeVille · 04/06/2011 14:13

Abortion bothers you? so you think pro life organisations are right? Or that women should be forced to carry a baby they don't want? When is abortion okay? Or never?

OP posts:
OnEdge · 04/06/2011 14:21

Yes abortion bothers me, doesn't it bother you ??? I can see why people become involved with pro life organisations. I personally don't support them. I don't think that women should be forced to carry a baby that they don't want. I personally think that abortion is an understandable decision in certain circumstances which include rape and fetal abnormalities.

CrapolaDeVille · 04/06/2011 14:47

OnEdge. Having had a termination it doesn't bother me, I would much rather either of my daughters choose a termination than have a baby at 17. Why is there a difference in which fetus' you would abort? Is the life of a baby resulting from rape not as worthy as one from a one night stand? And then a baby with possible abnormalities not as worthy as a sixth baby conceived but not afforded within a marriage? Who makes that judgement?

I think abortion should be available for anyone that wants one.

BooyHoo · 04/06/2011 14:53

"I think abortion should be available for anyone that wants one."

i totally agree. and as a woman living in northern ireland who had a pregnancy scare recently i am furious that i would have been forced to have a baby that i couldn't afford simply because i didn't have the money to get to england for a termination.

I have a problem with abortions when they are not easily and freely available. Why would anyone want to force other people to have unwanted children - bad for the child and bad for the parent!

Only crazy fools oppose abortion. FACT.

OnEdge · 05/06/2011 23:57

HHlimbo

Well, your structured argument has really made me think on this one !

Himalaya · 06/06/2011 10:25

Alicewhirled

Do you write to the companies you are boycotting to let them know why they've lost a cutomer? ...not necessarily Nestle, who know and are part of an organised boycott - but H&M, Lakeland etc..

I don't buy stuff from Lakeland, but I'm not boycotting them, I just don't see the need for a different cleaning product for every part of the house iyswim...

AliceWhirled · 06/06/2011 16:07

It varies. Several of them I have ongoing email exchanges with. Many of them I don't tell them. I don't think I'm going to bring them down by not shopping there, it's more about there being a gazillion places to spend my money so I don't spend it there, for my own integrity rather than in the belief that it will impact on them. You'd need stacks of people to have any impact, Nestle as case in point.

But of course if everyone shopped with integrity it would work, but I don't see that happening with the way that 'value' is prioritised over other considerations.

Himalaya · 06/06/2011 17:43

I don't know ...keep it up, always good to tell them, they do pay attention to such things (customer feedback) internally even it the impacts are not immediately obvious.

AliceWhirled · 06/06/2011 19:48

White Stuff - porn in their changing rooms
American Apparel - lap dancing images in their windows.
WHSmiths - selling playboy crap and refusing to move their lad's mags onto the top shelf.

I do enjoy a good email, so will keep plugging away.

Surely I'm not the only one? This thread seems to have become Alice's list. Confused

madwomanintheattic · 08/06/2011 01:08

la senza. i mean, i know you can't flog shite underwear without actually including it in the ads, but twelve feet high breasts clad in fuschia pink and alluringly pushed together underneath a pout i can do without at 9am. and that's without the slogans.
