Cinema goers reaction to James Bond 'we are equals' ad:

Sure it has been discussed a hundred and one times here, , so I won't go into the details of the advert itself.

I actually wasn't aware of the advert, but was pretty chuffed to see it put on before a Sunday afternoon 15 rated film. So, there I was, muching on my fizzy cola bottles, all chuffed. Then I noticed lots of huffing and puffing including my husband .

"Thought this was supposed to be a fun film" (Hangover Part 2) was one direct comment.

I was actually really sad by the obviously negative reaction to the advert. It wasn't a 'blame game' ad, it just points out the difference between men and women, here and now in modern society. I am not 'a feminist' , but I am surprised and saddened that such a significant number of people were huffy about the advert. Humm, I might link it on FB ad see what reaction I get there?

Sorry, my (one again) badly made point was my interested in the (very noticeable) hostility towards the add, rather then the add itself.

I think the hostility arises because it is seen as propaganda. Ads like this have to be subtle to fly under the radar. If people think they are being preached to or had by the ad makers then they immediately tune out. I think the ad was too blatant and unsubtle.

shows that the person thought they were being lectured to and immediately switched out.

claig, I didn't think about it being 'preachy' as I was so chuffed to see it in the first place ... that said, having watched it again, I see your point.

I am curious about why you put 'a feminist' in quotes! And just about that bit of your post generally b/c it sounds like you have a natural interest in the issue.

Why not just jump on in and be one?

Seriously though, I don't mean to go off topic or be overly flippant, but it is the feminism board after all, and my heart always sinks a little when someone feels they must distance themselves.

DirtyMartini, I have dissacioated (no way can I spell that word) from feminism a bit for various boring reasons.

The quote marks were actually a very bad way of showing that the hostility must have been really, really, obvious for me to notice it as I am not an active feminist. I am sure many people here would have picked up on far more subtle hostality that would have gone right over my head!

Well, I don't know weather to be chuffed or frustrated that the results of my FB post indicate that men seem a lot more annoyed about the hostile responce to the advert then women.

What are they saying about it?

I don't know weather to be pleased that men are cross abut the hostility, or frustrated that women arn't ....... hummm .... to be fair it was only a tiny status update that couldn't possibly reflect the situation accurately, so being a glass half full kind of girl I'm opting for pleased :)

Sorry claig, misread your comment. Male comments have basically said that people juat don't like being hit with facts. Interesting a female friend has replied and the thing that she didn't like was the DC dressing as a woman bit.
