Hooters serves 'breasts cake' to 12 year olds

Hi all
So not only have Hooters in Bristol started putting on bikini contests at 7pm (children allowed in until 9pm), terms of licence state no semi-nudity, they also held a 12 year old's birthday party last week and served a cake that was very similar to this (we are not posting the original photograph but this one on Google is very similar):

Hope the image works. If it doesn't, Google 'Hooters birthday cake' and it's the one with the breasts bursting out of the Hooters t-shirt with the huge nipples.

We've taken some action but, because forums have eyes, I don't want to post too much. However, if you'd like to urge BCC's licensing dept to carry out a licence review please e-mail: [email protected] and don't forget to thank Marks and Spencer whilst you're at it for allowing Hooters to open up in Bristol ([email protected]).

I also came across this image when I was googling, posted on a blog by a mother who thought it was hilarious to have her 7 year old daughter's birthday party at Hooters and pin big orange balloons to her chest.

I know I should post this in activism but thought it might get more attention here.

Thanks all
JIA

I don't think Hooters should accept bookings for children's parties. It's not a suitable place for them.

If you're actually trying to get the place shut down though, that's totally out of order.

organicgardener · 03/08/2011 01:25

On the face of it i does sound like vile profiteering.

But trying to get it shut down will cost people their jobs.

Thumbwitch · 03/08/2011 01:49

Am a bit Shock at the replies to that blog post - so obviously the over-sexualisation of little girls is just funny in the USA? :(

Hooters is a horrible place and should not be open to children at all, IMO. Ugh. And while organicgardener has a point about jobs, where do you draw the line? Should all brothels be kept open in case the girls lose their jobs? OK, so it's not illegal (like brothels are) but it does perpetuate some very non-equality norms that most sane people would like to see die out sooner rather than later.

They should be monitored in my opinion where minors are concerned and I agree that children shouldn't be allowed to visit the organisation.

As for brothels?

The streets are a dangerous place brothels are a little safer surely? Banning them would drive the ladies underground, we need to start with education (Of both sexes) to ease the situation.

TartyDoris · 03/08/2011 02:07

Prostitution should be legalised and regulated like it is in much of Europe. You aren't going to stop it by banning it, just make it more dangerous for the women involved.

Thumbwitch · 03/08/2011 02:15

No actually I agree - brothels should be legalised and regulated. It was a silly comparison.

But I do think they should have an x-rating on Hooters, like they do on porn/sex shops in Soho (or they used to - do they still?).

OK - so don't close it down - allow the disgusting place to continue but X-rate it and have frequent checks to make sure there are no children in there? Better but doesn't address the inherent exploitation of the females, regardless of whether or not they like being exploited. But then there are so many strip bars, pole-dancing clubs etc. that are just as bad and worse, it's a whole different ball game. Just leave it in the adult-only province then.

organicgardener · 03/08/2011 02:18

I always assumed that it was adults only.

Obviously the regs need tightening up so that's the case in future.

TartyDoris · 03/08/2011 10:56

I don't think Hooters is "X-rated". There is no nudity there to the best of my knowledge.

Maybe they shoud get a 15 rating or something, no kids under 15.

Thumbwitch · 03/08/2011 12:28

15 would be better than nothing, I reckon.

Everyone always goes on about how these women don't have to work there, they have a choice, blah blah blah.

No one ever asks why men are such cunts that they want to go to places like Hooters which dehumanise us.
