Surely this is a form of abuse?

Hi,
I have been lurking for a bit, really enjoying this section, but this is my first post.

Really angry. I read this article - uk.lifestyle.yahoo.com/family-parenting/mother-gives-botox-injections-to-her-eightyearold-daughter-blog-81-yahoo-lifestyles.html - and I have to say I am totally shocked and disgusted. Surely this is child abuse? Why is the poor child still with this warped and deluded mother? Why is she allowed to continue in her job and why is the doctor who supplies her not struck off? I know it is America, but I can't believe they find this acceptable.

On another note, yahoo's article did not really seem to to condemning her actions! They refer to 'loss of childhood innocence' and finish the article with the girl saying she feels "beautiful" WTF!!!!

Yes, that is abusive, physically but more importantly she is completely fucking this child's psychological and emotional wellbeing for years to come.

TBH it's probably not much worse than any parent who allows their daughter to participate in these horrendous pageants in America but the botox is pretty extreme.

There was another thread about it, though I can't find it now. It seems the story's not true.

DirtyMartini · 13/05/2011 19:46

You get a lot of these stories on the top shoutlines of those weekly gossip magazines (eg Closer) -- I often stop and look at the covers and I have noticed at least three or four over the past year or so that seemed to be riffing on the "irresponsible mother giving Botox to children" line.

God knows if they are true or not. I think they generally claim that they buy their Botox online.

If the stories are true, yes, it is abusive. If not true, it's depressing in another way b/c it's a new way of demonizing women with the "Botox mum" hate figure.

ChantingAsISpeak · 13/05/2011 21:48

I really hope it's not true. It seems a new and vile twist on the push for female 'perfection' if it is.

Yeah, i agree. it's like saying 'your face isn't good enough'. And 'your face is what really matters' and 'even your mother who should love you no matter what thinks so'. Shock

What, pray, is a virgin wax?

Part of me hopes that the Yellowstone Caldera goes boom again soonish so that we can start again from the few remaining survivors because we've got it all fucking wrong.

AyeRobot · 13/05/2011 23:28

(not just because of teen waking and kiddy botox, of course, but surely they are one of the horsepeople of the doom?)

The baby beauty queens programme had a little girl whose mum had given her cosmetic surgery on her ears at six or so and forced her to wear contacts at eight.

They walk amongst us!
