Am I being REALLY ott in hating this phrase?

"Oh he said he'd take me out tonight"

"He never takes me out."

"DH is taking me out for my birthday"

DO THEY LIVE IN A DRAWER?

Or a cupboard?

It annoys the hell out of me.

Just me then!

I dunno...it grates. I always think "Take your bloody self out!"

Maybe it's when it is used to describe people in a commited relationship...where finances are mutual and shared.

He's not taking you out then is he? You're going out together.
