Fucking hell I was reading this about the attack on a reporter in Egypt when I scrolled down to the comments and some twat has posted this:

"Serves her right.. its about time women reporters started to get the picture and not go to these places - Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, North Africa, etc - the people in these countries in the main do not have the same values as this reporter. So although I do feel sorry for what has happened to her I sincerely hope she has learnt her lesson"

FFS Angry words fail me.

i can't read the comments on the msn news page any more either. it's full of racist, sexist, disablist homophobic ranting. what scares me is these people are out there voting in a town hall hall near you...

from a statistical and democratic pov, i continue to hope that it isn't representative of the general population.

They are mediated comments aswell Shock

Lots of people genuinely are staggeringly prejudice about all sorts of things.

lospolloshermanos · 16/02/2011 16:35

These countries are notorious for this sort of behaviour well I'll say cultures.

but to say the reporter is someohow responsible is ridiculous, an Egyptian man ones said to me that women take a risk over here, men are always weaker and women should take it inot account whilst how they dress Shock

this is not uncommon in this culture its instilled, my dads muslim and sputs some crap it needs to stop

Yeah, avoid the comments on the DM and the Guardian (and pretty much any newspaper that allows comments on it's sites) and you will live a happier, less stressy life.

Though one of the super self-righteous comments on a Guardian article made me laugh. It was Hugh Feararrdgiu-ritugobnw's column and he was giving pasta recipes and someone posted:
"why are they publishing such nonsense? Shouldn't this article be about Quantative Easing, or the Budget Cuts or the protests in Egypt?"
No you humourless moron. It's about FOOD hence it's in the FOOD section.

I often ponder which is worse, the fact The Daily Hate Mail is even in existence, or that people actually buy and read it.

SueWhite · 16/02/2011 20:40

But then loads of other people commented 'what is wrong with you' etc. so that person is a bit of a loan freak. If you let every random freak upset you, you will make yourself unhappy

When I posted yesterday there were only two fairly twattish comments under the story.

I am glad others have now commented. :)

@lospolloshermanos

Its disgusting I posted this in news and politics and noticed one comment at the bottom went something like..

' attractivewomen shouldn't be news reporters men will always distracted '

Senior management at the BBC were still making arguments like this in all seriousness in the 1970s.
