Woman's Hour-what is the point?

I caught some of weekend Woman's Hour today.

They devoted more time to a feature on bedbugs than they did on the sexism issue that's been in the news this week.

Whenever they have even a vaguely feminist item on, they always bring some absolute moron in to bring in 'balance' to the debate but they mostly succeed in tipping the debate to an unfeminist perspective in their attempts to be 'balanced'. Hence I remember turning off in disgust when they had James Delingpole on going on about how men shouldn't change nappies because it's a woman's job.

Ditto whenever they touch on strip clubs (empowering), burlesque (ditto), prostitution (ditto). But they mostly avoid serious subjects to discuss topics like jam and marmalade making, typing abilities and electric harps.

Is this what they deem suitable topics for me, as a woman?

I end up turning off in disgust mostly when my already low expectations haven't been met!

Have you written in to complain? Might be worth it?

Yes I know Jess, I have mentioned it on here more times than I care to think about. Jenni Murray is frequently out-feministed even by the blokes she brings in "for balance". There was an article on why male bakers (of bread) were doing so well, and she asked Token Male Baker why, obviously expecting something about men evolving to hunt down yeast in the wild, and he said "there are a lot of great women out there who just aren't getting the recognition" (probably as a result of woman's hour etc not bothering to talk about them tbh) :o

Btw Jess off-topic but if you want to see James Delingpole admitting what a snobbish, desperate, sad little squirt he really is I highly recommend When Boris Met Dave. In fact I recommend it anyway.

I have a Woman's Hour book which is brilliant. i had been really looking forward to it when we came back to the UK but it's generally really dull when I've listened, I had hoped that I had just tuned in on bad days.:(
