Million Women Rise-question

Hi all, didn't want to hijack the Million Women Rise thread with this, but I wanted to ask those of you who have been on demonstrations etc before (i never have, though fully support the aims of this one)do you think any change does/is likely to come of it? I know its such a negative viewpoint and if everyone thought like that nothing would change, but some of the statements, like this one

To hold the media accountable for the continued misrepresentation, misappropriation and abuse of the female body throughout all forms of media

Just seems like nothing would ever come of it, they're already whingeing how hard it would be for ISPs to filter anything pornographic i think they'd have a heart attack with all the extra work the above would involve.
Some of the other statements look fairly attainable like guaranteeing the min reflection period for trafficked women/children(then again what about trafficked men?)

I think even if the only thing to come of the march is more women identify themselves as feminists and join their local network that would be enough for me!

OP when discussing racism do you bring up the whites too?

hi kittenshaped. For me, getting together with likeminded women helps me cope with the the patriarchy. I used to get really depressed about it when I thought I was alone but at least now I know different. Also, they are the friendliest bunch. I went to the Manchester MWR on my own but was welcomed with open arms.

I do know that things will not change completely in my life time. But, I would rather be a person who tries to change things rather than one who sits back and does nothing. If things change a little it is worth it, any more is a bonus.

I would quite like to go to one to be honest, but im shy!!
I suppose the mere fact it will get peoples attention is worth it too, hopefully more people will question things and think a bit deeper about it.
TheFeministParent, I may have misunderstood what you're saying but if not then yes, I would include all races in a discussion of racism.
which is why I had mentioned men there as obviously they are very much left out of these discussions but as we all know they are affected by trafficking too, not necessarily sex trafficking which is usually what is referred to when talking about trafficking, suppose thats why its more likely to not be spoken about as much.
It just struck me as odd that they weren't mentioned along with women and children is all

But, as said many times on the feminist board, focus is needed to fight any battle. So including men in everything when a problem overwhelmingly affects women is sabotage to the cause. Of course men's battles have a place, but muddying the waters in every battle fought for women is damaging and comes across that we don't matter. Gun/knife crime charities focus on men because men are most likely to be affected directly, either a victim or perpetrator of gun/knife crime.

Anyway go along to a march, you would be surprised how amazingly powerful it is. (well I expect I've only been to one conference)

the man thing was just in brackets at the end of what i was saying because if we're talking about making it law for trafficked women and children to have a min reflection time i thought men should be given that too. Other than that though i agree, there isnt a need to muddy the waters.
it wasn't really a "what about the men" statement, more a if we're going to try to make this an actual law men should be included in that law.

Kittenshaped, are you going to go on the MWR march in London. Please go, you will be amazed. I cant wait. I have never been on the London one but the Manchester one was great and there were no where near as many as there are in London so it will be a new experience for me. I also went on the Reclaim the Night march in Leeds this month and it was great. These empowered women are really a great bunch and so friendly so dont be shy!
