International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women - snappy title, no?

I think more people are aware if it being White Ribbon Day where men where a white ribbon to show that they are opposed to violence against women.

I don't know why (well, I probably do) this campaign doesn't have the impact of wear it pink, the poppy campaign etc. Do you have white ribbons for your husband? Or are you planning on doing anything?

I didn't even really know it was a thing until I have started doing some work for a women's charity and would usually say I was pretty aware of this kind of thing. It's also the start of '16 days' which is 16 days of activism leading up to Human Rights Day on 10th December.

It seems to be bigger in Australia and NZ than it is over here too, there are localised events but I can only really see them listed on feminism websites.

I just wonder what it would take to make it a really mainstream campaign. If you search google news for white ribbon the most high profile news story about it from the UK is about a rugby match!!

But there have been serial killers of women in the UK. Am I missing the point somehow?

Thanks SGM, makes sense.

To respond to the OP too, I was only aware of white ribbon recently through reclaim the night and wonder too why it doesn't get more attention. Well, not wonder, I can have a good guess why, but find it interesting.

Didn't the whole Blackpool football team wear them or am I making that up?

I read about that today, I was only 2 in 1989 which might explain some of my lack of knowledge.

I really like the concept of men vowing not to commit violence against women, it's something that won't necessarily just written off as noise about women's issues made by women. Well, if there was much noise. I wouldn't know where to buy one if I wanted to!
