This is probably a daft question but I don't want to get there and find out that it's one I should have asked. I'm going to my first RTN at the end of this month with my mum and my sister. Am I right to assume that the fact it's a women only march won't mean that it excludes my 12 month old nephew?

I would be absolutely amazed and would be rechecking my whole feminist understanding if it excluded your 12 month old nephew.

sethstarkaddersmum · 09/11/2010 08:44

dress him in pink - they'll never guess Wink

seriously I am 90% certain that I have specifically read that it's ok, but even if I hadn't I would be confident it is.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 09/11/2010 09:07

I can't find anything specifically about this for RTN, but on Million Women Rise in March I know their rule was that babies and children were welcome. Like Alice I would be totally astonished if anyone did anything except smile at him - bringing up your little boys to appreciate RTN is great work :)

sethstarkaddersmum · 09/11/2010 11:14

just checked, RTN Leeds definitely says children are welcome.

earwicga · 09/11/2010 11:56

Boys up to the age of 12 are welcome to march in women only marches.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 09/11/2010 12:23

He is a bit small to prop up next to the Edith Cavell statue all by himself :o

Although the London Pro-Feminist Men did run the creche at the conference, so they would probably look after him :)

"Just as we said - feminism leads to mothers abandoning their children on the streets. See how this woman has left her baby son in the uncaring arms of Edith Cavell, who was also no better than she should be"

Ha much as the idea of propping him up against the statue and using him as a publicity stunt entertains me I fear he will spend much of the night being carried (by me!) in his sling.

If boys up to 12 are welcome I may bring my 10 year son as well.

Why not? I would email to check but only so you don't have to worry about it. There would be a big to-do if anyone tried to chuck a kid off the march! :o

Rachyrachrach · 09/11/2010 17:54

I've e-mailed them to ask. My son would love to come and unfortunately overheard me discussing it with my mum so is now very excited. I think he's more excited at the prospect of going to London than he is about any great feminist cause though. Ho hum

Just mentioning I've started a thread in AIBU here about having an official MN presence.

Rachyrachrach · 10/11/2010 21:20

Had an e-mail back from the London feminists. Apparently male children up to the age of 14 are welcome. I am now considering taking both my sons!

That's great. Quite right too. :)

UmYeahLikeTotally · 10/11/2010 22:27

just posted on the AIBU thread....not sure which one to write on!

Btw, there is an event invitation open to all on facebook here. Invite friends!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 10/11/2010 22:49

Yeah I saw it! Sorry I started a thread in Feminism section ages ago, then Rachy started another one there, then I started one in AIBU to make it a bit more visible (not that many people have replied :() so it's a bit confusing. Really pleased you're coming. I'm going to go and reply on the other one now just to boggle your mind...

UmYeahLikeTotally · 10/11/2010 22:57

haha! no worries, I'll just write on them all!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 10/11/2010 23:21

excellent :)

Rachyrachrach · 11/11/2010 06:56

Sorry to have added to the confusion! I too will post on all threads.

There is an event in Manchester on the 21st Nov (facebook page here)

In Portsmouth on the 25th Nov: (facebook page here)

In Aberdeen on the 27th Nov

and in Leeds on the 4th Dec.

Information on the marches can be found on the official RTN website
