Don't normally post in this section, very much a lurker though, but thought this might be my début.

Just found it all too accurate.

LMAO DBennett!

I love 'I am solemnly erecting a granite monument to your dudeitational rightness. And I'm not sexist so it's ok.'

(you should post in this section more often y'know Wink)

I commend you on your first post DBennett and look forward to many more Grin

And here's the end of sexism that will inevitably follow

God it was brilliant
Especially some of the whiney comments about it dividing men and women. Duh-er...

I agree Dittany. But I think one often starts out with the engaging and then changes after seeing what happens if you do.

Yeah, that's right Gabby/Ken was commenting on the events over at harkavagrant.

Her website is pretty good as well by the way.

Yeah he's a man - that's why it's called "being a traitor to one's gender" or whatever. He seems to actually get it though.

I love the "logic force field" frame and the way he's illustrated the women's arguments with loads of irrefutable facts :o

I saw this comic yesterday and loved it - and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Kate Beaton (always have, always will, want to hang out with her and drink cocktails) so I'm pleased he was posting about this.

Also, welcome DBennett - great way to unlurk! [hgrin]

"a man who'd said he liked her cartoon so much that he wanted to marry her and have her babies."

Why is that sexist? Because I say on a regular basis to DH "marry me, and have my babies!" (mostly he declines...) I think as a comment that is not at all the same as "Your comic is so good it makes me want to fuck you"

I read dittany's post from Bidisha's blog and was filled with depression and anger about the position women are in, still. And then I read this, andthink "yes, great cartoon!"
And then I read the actual comment that set it all off and think Confused - and your problem with that is what?

If someone said to me at work that I'd done a really good job and it made him want to fuck me (unlikely in my job) I'd be angry and offended. If a bloke said "hey, good work - I want to marry you and have your babies" I'd hear that as a jokey comment, which is a play on the "popular" idea that all women want to do is find a man and have his babies....

So do I need to have the "Well,I thought I was a feminist..." T shirt made straight away? Sad

Yes,I do get that,I just don't see that the comment isn't saying that. It's a jokey saying,in fact maybe even a quote from some bygone comedy show, and could in my world be used by anyone to anyone.Maybe a bit over familiar for the internet, and someone you don't actually know...
But looking at what I can find on twitter,it looks as if she was using it as a general representation of what was said, rather than it having been those exact words which were used -and it's the exact words that I can't see the problem with,so I take it all back...

I don't hear it as reminding women of their place - it's a scenario in which the man is going to have the babies, after all,not RL.

But,yes,I'm being nitpicky about a particular phrase, and what it says to me,and ignoring the wider picture of sexual harassment of women and the internet, and how you'd feel if it was happening to you regularly,I'll stop now - sorry.

Pogles This post does some of the explaining work, I think, which might make it clearer.
