pammy

peta do great stuff, but this reminds me of the old 'i'd rather go naked' ads.

They're a bunch of mysogynist wankers.

I lost patience with Peta a long time ago. The principles behind their campaigning is great but the way they do it is just awful IMO.

tabouleh · 25/10/2010 00:05

See my thread from July on this - the City of Montreal banned it on the grounds that it objectified women.

"It is not so much controversial as it goes against all principles public organizations are fighting for in the everlasting battle of equality between men and women."

I have emailed [email protected] to complain and complained to the ASA.

nickytwotimes · 25/10/2010 06:53

Yeah, principles fine, but theway they do it...Hmm

Will complain to asa, thanks, yes.

eurgh, saw this in the guardian.

Women = animals is the basic summary. How to dehumanize women anymore than they are being.
I think this is one of the worst ads I've ever seen. I mean, the body they're using doesn't even have real breasts.
They would NEVER have used a male body

sethstarkaddersmummyreturns · 25/10/2010 17:37

'They would NEVER have used a male body'

indeed - and more fool them, actually, because woman as meat = pretty boring and predictable these days, whereas man as meat = genuinely shocking.

HerBeatitude · 25/10/2010 20:12

so shall we tell their marketing dept?

What is the point? Are consumers supposed to think "I want to bone Pammy so I'd better turn vegan"?

Pfft.

TethHearseEnd · 25/10/2010 20:23

That makes me want to club a baby seal.

HerBeatitude · 25/10/2010 20:25

It just makes me want to club all the members of PETA.

Looks like there'll be a run on clubs then... Grin

sethstarkaddersmummyreturns · 25/10/2010 20:39

wow, I knew the conference had got you all fired up but I didn't know you were going to start going around clubbing people Shock

BelligerentGhoul · 25/10/2010 20:43

I think it's clever. And Pamela A will have agreed to be part of this because she supports their cause.

It could have been equally effective done with a male celeb and I wouldn't have been at all surprised by that either.

I don't think it objectifies women and I don't think it is misogynistic. It is making a point - a point which Ms Anderson opted to be involved in and has not been cheapened by: I'm sure she's cheapened herself far more in the past with her acting.

HerBeatitude · 25/10/2010 20:47

It's actually not relevant that Pammy has agreed to be treated as a piece of meat adn therefore it's OK. It's not OK, in a world where women are routinely portrayed as and treated as pieces of meat.

Everyone always does this "but she agreed to it" thing. So what? It doesn't make it right. And if they would have done it with a male sleb, why haven't they?

BelligerentGhoul · 25/10/2010 21:16

But the point is actually that she ISN'T a piece of meat - and thus neither should animals be. And since they repeat many of their ads with a range of celebs, they may well plan to issue it with a male model too. Their 'Ink not mink' ones used a whole range of naked male models.

HerBeatitude · 25/10/2010 21:19

Hmm. The problem with that, is that Pammy is unfortunately considered a piece of meat by a large chunk of the general public. She is famous for her body in Baywatch, that's what she is all about in the public mind. If it had been an actor who is known for something completely different than their body (like John Hurt for some reason he's the first one springing to mind), then I would agree with you.

BelligerentGhoul · 25/10/2010 21:25

Unfortunately, because I so rarely watch television, I don't really recognise many of the people's names that they have used but a quick glance at their website shows naked men called:
Jamie Bamber
Dave Navarro
Steve O
Tommy Lee
Ron Jeremy

They also have Simon Cowell but he is clothed (thank you for small mercies!). :)

And a v tastefully naked Sadie Frost, Eve Mendes and Jamillia.

HerBeatitude · 25/10/2010 21:27

oh bloody hell the thought of Simon Cowell

BelligerentGhoul · 25/10/2010 21:29

:)

sethstarkaddersmummyreturns · 25/10/2010 22:14

welllll..... Naked Simon Cowell with different cuts marked so we can imagine him being butchered adds another aspect.

(which comment, incidentally, helps make the point as to why a naked woman with the cuts marked on her is a Bad Thing.)

HerBeatitude · 25/10/2010 22:19

Actually I'm beginning to warm to the idea.

Can we have a naked Piers Morgan all marked out as well please?

And Dermot O'Leary as well for good measure.

And I think that's why it demonstrates that this is a Bad Thing. I'm already feeling murderous and hostile. Grin
