Are there any female vigilante forces at work, patrolling towns at night for instance?

Have there ever been?

Some towns have volunteers that see to drunks in the town centre at the weekend...mop them up and get them home safely.

There were some of that kind of thing in the 70s, angry wimmin for example. Here's a link www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/this-britain/whatever-happened-to-feminisms-extreme-sects-465970.html (not read it but skimmed that it looked relevant)

Why did you need some? Wink

I often think that if I didn't have the responsibility of children....

Something to consider for my old age, when I take to purple.

There was The Pink Gang, a group of anti-domestic-violence women in India between 2006 to 2008. I don't know if they are still active.

HerBeatitude · 18/10/2010 20:40

That's partly because they didn't have the vote, so you could argue that they didn't have recourse to democratic means.

Wherease formally, all the pricks would argue that we do have recourse to democracy. Whcih of course, given that all parties are male, we don't, but lots of people are fooled by that argument.

Totally agree BeerTricks.

Was reading the other thread about the woman having her bum pinched while she was getting cash out, and I just pictured a crowd of masked women swooping down, pinning those blokes up against the wall and telling them they will be watched from now on.

Some places are so dangerous, and with the police so unhelpful (thinking of the threads on catcalling etc) I'm surprised there aren't groups of women taking matters into their own hands.

The old ladies on the bus I sometimes get are like a vigilante force - they don't let teenagers/drunk men get away with very much.

sethstarkaddersmummyreturns · 19/10/2010 09:07

but they're only there during the day generally; in the evenings it's a bit different.
Hey I hope they don't lose their free bus passes in the cuts!

EvilAntsAndMiasmas · 20/10/2010 18:13

They sound GREAT ssm, can they start a branch where I live?

I don't think a vigilante force would need to actually DO much to start these tosspots living in fear. They are big bullies after all, cowards.

You might find more info on vigilantes of the past and some willing current volunteers (!) here at Reclaim the Night, a brilliant and sadly necessary idea
