Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Talk me out of cosmetic breast surgery. I know it's indefensible.

Breasts have been destroyed by pregnancy. I wouldn't mind if I had an understanding lover who saw all my goodness within etc, but I'm single and have lost all my confidence. I feel I am 35 with the body of an 85 year old

Yet I also considered myself to be a proud feminist. How, then, can I be thinking such fucking crap??

ccpccp - why assume friend is jealous not horrified?

interesting that you say well-done surgery is hard to tell from a good bra. You may well be right - obviously I wouldn't know if I'd ever seen well-done surgery - but it's funny how many people despite being rich & famous often manage to have surgery that is blindingly obvious - you would think they at least would be able to find a good surgeon Confused

It was me actually, ccpccp.

They aren't jealous AFAIK, it is almost always male friends who talk about it in this way. In fact I found out from her boyfriend who was speaking about it in the context of "she has anxiety and low self-esteem".

Maybe jealousy is the wrong word. These people wouldnt have surgery themselves, but dont like that someone else has been given an unfair advantage through it.

Maybe its a territorial thing? The pecking order is changed in some way? Hard to tell as reactions are different, but its often close friends who take the changes badly.

Its not horror IMHO. People are always fascinated once they find out.

I have to agree with you on that fake fake boobs thing. I guess its hard to hide surgery/saline when you are a size zero. To carry it off I think you need a little healthy weight and to keep proportion.

Apologies for the mistake EvilAntsAndMiasmas. I suspect your friend has no idea her BF is spreading the word! People have surgery for a host of reasons, but being a sideshow attraction in a room full of whispers isnt generally one of them.

I like having small breasts. Who sees them? I'd rather be fit and healthy generally and not obsess about any one part. We're more than the sum of our parts!!

I have recently started working in specialist dementia care and have a couple of clients who went under general anaesthetic (for random surgeries) and were never the same since. Now diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment query dementia. I had NO idea this could happen previously. So you could die and you could put yourself at risk of brain damage.
