Check this out for the most ludicrous and oppressive 'syndrome' for a long while

Someone I know has had this thrown on them as part of divorce proceedings.............so he was having an affair and left. His kids don't want to see him (he fucked off for 6 months and left them all to it etc etc) and apparently this is her fault

The scary thing is that this is creeping into the legal system.

What is happening in our world? It is impossible to think anything other than the world is out to 'get' women.

There are an incredible amount of misogynist blogs out there, I imagine there are more web women hating places than there are sites/blogs attempting to empower and inform women. I hate to talk in gender, but it does seem that the little equality women have achieved has really pissed off the misogynists and even your average Joe. Feminism is synonymous with man hating, even with some of my educated friends. Women feel like they can't use the word feminist and prefer 'equalitarian' because they think feminism puts women above men. whilst men control propaganda feminism will always suffer the 'hairy ugly man hating lesbian' type association. (Have to say I've never met a man hater nor an ugly feminist!!)

Alec Baldwin is a funny man and not being up on his situation but only remembering something dodgy happened, the thing I remember is that his wife was dolally....obviously I knew no details and so what I had heard had a variety of filters and the message was that she was in the worng.

I am so looking forward to being more informed after the conference!!!

This is an example of the sort of entitlement attitude pedalled in the US; note the camouflage decor at the bottom of the page -- 'Helping Men Help Themselves' is the motto here, no doubt they don't see the irony in the phrase.

This is all very strange. I would have thought that, while not very nice, it is quite understandable that a parent might badmouth their ex partner to the children. Why does it need to be called a syndrome? It's an unpleasant but perfectly normal part of human behaviour I'd have thought.

I have heard of this "parental alienation syndrome" though, I know that it is used in cases in the UK. I thought it referred to real and extreme cases ie the parent doing it had mental health issues basically and was being patently out of order. IYSWIM. Not that it applied if someone bought a cat Hmm or that the bloke who thought it up basically did so as he thought that all women were lying when they said their exes were shits Hmm Hmm

Extremely worrying.

Patienceobtainsallthings · 14/09/2010 20:18

Can i just add that it is very unlikely that these blokes were gentlemen that decided they were unhappy in a marriage and took the civilised route out ie dignified ,honest and responsible.The more revelations that occur the more heartbreak and cruelty the wife has to cope with ,keep her side of the street clean and keep stability in her children's lives .Thousands of women are living this life every day and doing a bloody good job !
Is there a name for this ?I was thinking along the lines of,"Feminine Instinct Survival Syndrome"

When it comes to lawyers, any straw is sturdy enough for grasping. The adversarial aspect of the legal system seems to reinforce the all or nothing instincts of many a horrible man; in some cases women are subject to 'abuse by legal system' depending on the resources available to a really spiteful and determined exH.

It needs to be called a syndrome in order to win cases.

Of course, labelling and demonising the woman like this is another way of stalking her, if you sit down and think about it -- you are actually asserting your right to police her speech and her attitude and even her decisions about pets, etc. And the only way to find out what mum is saying or doing is to probe when the children are visiting. It's control by other means. I think any man who attempts to use this kind of argument against an ex in court should be immediately referred for a mental health assessment.

"I think any man who attempts to use this kind of argument against an ex in court should be immediately referred for a mental health assessment."

That'd be a good way to route out the mentalists in the court system. Any man who believes in Malicious Mother Syndrome is a nutjob. Do you think Fawcett are onto this? They were really good about tackling the fact that the Condems targeted women for cuts.

Sakura · 15/09/2010 02:08

Seriously, if men keep this up, they're going to find that women stop having children altogether.
Women in Japan don't bother anymore. It's kind of funny to see all the stressed out elderly men in parliament wondering why the "baby-machines" aren't doing their job properly for the sake of the country. It doesn't compute that women don't actually want to lose their jobs when they get married or have children Hmm

If you think things might have changed even a little since the 19th century, you might be sadly mistaken.

Christopher Booker, who unfortunately is a climate change denier, has been tapping in the rich source of stories that darken social care and it's impact on women.

His latest article is a scary example of how easy it is to bundle a 'difficult' woman off to the asylum;

Child protection: why did this woman lose her children?

Of course it might have been fully justified to employ the asylum technique, but I was particularly taken by;

"Last week, she was interviewed in the mental hospital by another psychiatrist. After receiving nothing but sane replies, the baffled expert finally said: ?I?ll have to ask the social workers what?s wrong with you.?

She is Mariam Ellans
