What should I say to this?

On facebook (!!) I am friends with my mother's half-brother, we're not close and I barely know him.

On facebook his status is along the lines of "Why do so many girls put orange fake tan on, do they really think that men like it when they do that? I'd rather they were natural - girls take note."

One girl has pointed out that maybe they don't do it for men. To which he responded "I'm glad you don't but most people do... then again if one of those orange slags offered I can't say I'd say no to some orange arse in my bed." Cue lots of support from his vile friends.

I want to confront him but I don't know him well so I feel awkward about it. What would you say to him? I'm torn between a very short, "With five sisters I'm amazed you've still managed to grow up such a sexist twit," which he'd at least notice, or a longer rant which he might just not bother to read.

What do you think? I'm normally quite vocal about sexism with people I know, but when I don't know them well, I feel quite awkward about...

I like your 'five sisters' response myself

It's difficult when it's family or people you know well isn't it? I think your first response sounds good.

Trouble is, I'm tempted to delete him but then who would tell him? Plus I only added him because my mum misses her nephew and she can see his pictures on fb, she'd be disappointed if she couldn't see them anymore.

Anyway, I said, "Wow. I'm amazed that with so many sisters you still manage to come out with such misogynistic crap."

Told my mum and she is going to ring him for a catch up and to shout at him. Hopefully he'll think twice next time.

Glad your mum is going to berate him too Grin. Sounds like you handled it well. I'd be tempted to delete him too.

I saw the Chechen president on TV saying all women should cover their heads because he finds covered women more attractive. He is the president of whole almost country and he thinks women should dress in order that they are more attractive to him. Knob.

I think what you have put is fine.

Good comment, might even make him think how he'd feel if other men were making comments like that about one of his sisters.

I would probably delete though, would ruin my day to have to see crap like that every time I go onto Facebook.

Gosh, Historygirls, that's dreadful! I hope everyone uncovers their heads.
