here

If the roles were reversed there would be outrage!

I think in general men arent bothered about things like this. I mean I have seen ads and thought they were funny and then seen they have been pulled. Like that courage ale one where the woman said does my bum look big in this and it says take courage my friend. I thought that was amusing because it is an amusing take on what some women ask and then people complained about it. Talk about being a bit too sensitive.

TotorosOcarina · 29/08/2010 09:42

I think there are reversed adverts, like the jokey beer ones.

I see no problem with it.

Lighten up!

sorky · 29/08/2010 09:45

My point being that if the woman was ejected from the window because she was getting on the mans nerves, there would be outrage.

It would be seen as insensitive to those experiencing dv

It's double standards.

dv is a massive problem against women though. There isn't half the onslaught against men as there is against women both generally and in the media.

Violence against any sex is a problem.

Hmm
dingdongmrs · 29/08/2010 10:00

I dont see what the big deal is to be honest! its got nothing to do with DV, and i dont think anyone going through DV would be offended either. i dont see what your getting at?! its funny ad, we all know during our time of the month we can get irritable, our bf's and husbands can annoy us. whats the problem? i think sometimes we can look a little too deep into things to be honest. its an ad about feminax!

sorky · 29/08/2010 10:00

I think it does a huge disservice to Feminism too sgm.

It perpetuates the myth that all feminists are men haters and have some sort of superiority complex.

There again, the thread which denounces all men thinking of sex whenever they see a woman is the same (learned or innate).
Who says they are ffs?

OP posts:
nickytwotimes · 29/08/2010 10:01

It's insulting to men and women imo.

sorky · 29/08/2010 10:01

Is it just as acceptable if the roles were reversed?

OP posts:
dingdongmrs · 29/08/2010 10:03

i would say yes it is acceptable if the roles were reversed, i dont believe in favouring one sex over the other. us women piss off men just as much as men piss us off! thats why its supposed to be funny. its not supposed to offend anyone, or to be taken seriously!

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 29/08/2010 10:09

I did watch it and think 'what a stupid advert.' (deep thinker, me)

IMO it's about on an offensiveness level with those ones (Pepsi Max?) where the guy's mates do the fake TV broadcast/shark attack to get the girl to shag him. Vaguely amused at first glance, then thought - er, hang on a minute, that's not very pleasant actually.

MarineIguana · 29/08/2010 10:15

I hate ads where women are comedy-violent or even demeaning/belittling or to men - it is double standards and there are men out there who suffer it in RL and it's not funny. Also when women on here joke about kicking an annoying DH in the goolies or whacking him with a frying pan. I know it's a joke, but it makes me uncomfortable, because we do rightly demand that men don't do this and so it's not OK for us to.

I hated that ad where the man was cooking chicken fajitas and the woman was having a snidey phone call with her friend about his crap cooking skills.

marzipananimal · 29/08/2010 10:16

I didn't like the advert - but because it implies that feminax will quickly remove period pain. I WISH!!!

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 29/08/2010 10:20

Maybe the ejector-seat-in-the-sofa thing is sufficiently cartoon-ish to make it far enough removed from actual violence, that people feel it's broadly acceptable?

StrawberryTot · 29/08/2010 10:24

when i watched that advert all i could think about was where could i get a sofa like that :o i agree with dingdongmr in that it wasn't made to offend or to be taken seriously its just a little light hearted fun.
if were going to complain about adverts being sexist take the new one for instance. i mean how dare they assume that a woman wouldn't want a walk in fridge for beer Wink

ThatDamnDog · 29/08/2010 10:29

Strawberry Grin

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 29/08/2010 10:32

the "are you a twat"/"do you have a wkd side" ads are truly dreadful.

I can't decide to whom they're most offensive. One of them appears to suggest that being a controlling knobend wrt to you wife and your mum makes you a hilarious cheeky chappie. Which offends me as a woman, and as the mother of a son, and on behalf of my (male) dp.

"I think it does a huge disservice to Feminism too sgm."

sorky - how is this advert related to feminism?

dingdongmrs · 29/08/2010 10:35

i think its a sad sad world if we cant laugh at ourselves! no 'fun' advert is meant to be taken seriously. there are more serious worrying things in life than a stupid advert!

sunny2010 · 29/08/2010 10:38

'the "are you a twat"/"do you have a wkd side" ads are truly dreadful.'

I think they are funny. You seen that one with the women walk in to the cupboard withthe shoes and then the men go in to the beer one that is funny. I agree with dingdongmrs.

Confused is the woman on the sofa a feminist? How do we know that?

ISNT · 29/08/2010 10:43

Oh I see msrisotto has already asked that!

As for the advert - it's bloody stupid. I'm not sure that the claim that ads are never sexist about women and if they were there would be outrage are quite right though Confused
