Are very heavy first two days of a period unusual?

The first two days are super heavy, to the point where I wake up in the middle of the night to change tamp & pad as I'm guaranteed to soak through both, and often have small clots in these two days. Sometimes have a dull ache throughout my cycle too when not on my period.

I've never really thought about it until my DH and I have started TTC and I'm pretty sure I've had two chemical pregnancies (only being trying two months and I've had faint lines on a pregnancy test around 10DPO which then disappear).

Is there something wrong with me?

Very normal to have heavy bleeding the first couple of days of a period and, unfortunately, chemical pregnancies are quite common too. In years gone by we would never have known, but as tests have become more sensitive, we are able to detect pregnancy earlier. I hope it happens for you soon, but at this stage I would try not to worry.

Heavy first think normal, and pain during ovulation also normal.

Hard to say how normal it is. Yes its normal to have a heavier flow at first, and some women have very heavy flows. But if you're soaking through tampons/pads within 2 hours then you need to see a doctor for investigations for fibroids/endometriosis etc.

If you're soaking through them in less than 4 hours, I'd still recommend speaking to your GP. As you're TTC it won't hurt to have it investigated and if it's not anything more than a normally heavy flow then the gp can prescribe things to help.

Women are too used to expecting heaviness and pain in menstruation, we just get on with it, but a lot of the time conditions are overlooked.
