Recurring UTIs in perimenopause: has vaginal oestrogen or HRT helped?

Looking for some reassurance there may be light at the end of the tunnel! Since Feb I have had 3 UTIs having never had this issue - maybe one 20 years or so ago! On my third one now 🙁 and been given 7 days of ABs and loathed to take them as I’ve had so many recently! Last UTI I ended up in A&E. I am 43 and due to start HRT and the GP I saw today has also prescribed me some vaginal oestrogen cream as she thinks the UTIs are due to vaginal dryness etc which I have been experiencing. I am beyond fed up - anyone who’s had recurring UTIs had good results with HRT and/or oestrogen cream? Can anyone offer any other tips to help - am already drinking lots of water, taking D- mannose, limiting caffeine and just don’t know what else to do! Luckily with the UTIs I don’t have bad pain but just urgency and an ‘uncomfortable feeling’ - urine dip showed leukocytes and blood trace but no nitrites and has been sent off to the lab - same story as last time!

100000%. Vaginal oestrogen completely fixed my recurrent UTIs. I was in a new sexual relationship at the time, the poor man just had to unbutton his trouser waistband and I had a UTI, but oestrogen cream put a stop to them. I was already on HRT at the time so I don’t think HRT alone would help.

Have a look at Drnighatarif on Instagram.

Honestly, she is wonderful and explains so much about all women's medical things - menopause to POCS, endometritis to UTIs, and SO much more beside.

I have learned so much about things I just didn't realise, including things it is embarrassing to ask as you are made to feel you ought to already know.

I can't praise her videos enough.

What a thing to battle with at the start of a new relationship! Thank you so much - you have given me hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel! Did it take a while to work?

Thank you - I have just given her a follow and already come across a helpful video 😀

I have been put on a daily dose of Methenamine hippurate, the nurse said that recurring UTIs are really common with perimenopause, i took them for a month and have had no issues at all and have felt so much better

i had a couple of UTIs in close succession, never having had one in my life before. Not had another since HRT (was already on oral and switched to patches) and vaginal oestrogen - think it's the oestradiol cream that made the difference

I take D-mannose daily since peri.1000mg dose which is two capsules a day.i also up that to 4 capsules for 2 days after the deed! It has helped enormously, I buy it on Amazon.I am same , have been plagued by them most often life but got worse in peri.cream also helped too.
