Do’s and don’t’s for hysterectomies?

I have been on the w/l for a hysterectomy due to fibroids for the last 10months. I’ve had some recent complications and ended up haemorrhaging and being being admitted to gynae twice recently. Due to this my hysterectomy has been expedited. I’ve received my pre op appt for the end of June and now I’m a little nervous! Is there anything I should be doing to prepare for surgery? Any advice from those that have had hysterectomies as to how best to prepare? Any tips for pre and post op? thank you ☺️

Don’t be a martyr. Put yourself first for your recovery period. Take the drugs on schedule for the first week or two, even if you think you don’t need them.

As soon as you feel able have a plan to do ‘a thing’ most days that will get you out of the house. My DH was brilliant when I was recovering- healthy meals, drugs, drinks, etc. were flowing for weeks, but the one thing that really made a difference was him getting me out every day. These were small things, like a 5 minute walk to the coffee shop at the end of the road, or a short drive to the garden centre to look at stuff and have a scone, or taking me to the local park for a walk - just things like that. It stops you ‘going in to yourself’ and prepares you for your return to normal life. Once we drove to the beach (about half an hour away), sat on a bench and had an ice cream, and then came home. It was such a positive way to recover.

I second @Flamingmentalcats. I developed a nervous cough while waiting. @AImportantMermaid gives very good advice.
