How to get taken seriously? (suspected pmdd)

Does anyone have any advice for going to the doctors about getting a possible diagnosis for pmdd?

I have been tracking my symptoms for almost 4 months and they are consistent with pmdd. I have been struggling for years.
I went to the doctors a year ago and mentioned that my period affected my mental health a lot and the doctor just suggested the pill (this would be a last resort for me) I can't live like this anymore, it is impacting my work, relationships just my life in general. I have a phone appointment booked for the 8th of June, which is the earliest I could get.
Any advice is appreciated 🫶

I would list some examples of times pmdd has affected your life.
If the pill is the last resort, what you be willing to consider?
Antidepressant use or CBT?
I'd research what they might offer so you can make a decision having mulled it over.

Agree with PP I’d think about what you actually want. The most common treatment is a combination of the pill & antidepressants so you could ask to try that.

When I had this years ago it was the pill or nothing. I didn’t want to go down the anti depressant route.

Take your symptom notes with you and explain clearly how bad it gets before your period and how it’s affecting your life and work.
Tell them you’re concerned it could be PMDD and ask what proper treatment options you can try besides just going on the pill.

Mu surgery website lists GPs special interests. I booked with the one who had a special interest in womens health.

I was put on the PoP and it was/is honestly life changing for me in terms of my symptoms.

The other option discussed was the cyclic use of SSRIs but I was less keen on that, and as it turned out, hasn't been needed.

Good luck!
