Hysterectomy and baths

I'm due to have a hysterectomy after being severly anaemic. I saw private consultant and get to have it in 4 weeks time! I'm having flooding and feel i can't wait for nhs as will be anaemic again in no time.
I have read that baths are not advised but other nhs websites say baths are ok? can you have baths afer hysterctomy? US advice says it can affect vaginal cuff or is it just US advice ?
Has anyone got clearer advice?
Some websites say only shower, some say shallow baths ok?

I was told to wait 3 weeks after my abdominal hysterectomy, and to keep my wound dry. I followed these instructions and had no issues with the wound or my cuff. After 6 months the wound was barely visible.

I was dying for a proper bath after three weeks!

Your consultant should advise you about aftercare for your particular circumstances and you can ask questions before you are discharged.

Good luck with the operation. Mine freed me from years of pain and misery, I am 10 years on and have never looked back.

Oh I’ve never looked back either and had a full hysterectomy 11 years ago. I can’t remember what I did re washing but you’ll have to be careful lifting yourself out of a bath.

I had prolapse surgery in December and was advised to wait 6 weeks before a bath. That first bath was amazing
Good luck with your op x

Oooh. I had an abdominal hysterectomy 3 weeks ago and am desperate for a relaxing, comforting bath! I was going to wait 6 weeks, but maybe I will go for it. I hadn’t heard of baths bring dodgy for the cuff….

I had a 7cm endometrioma - I feel your pain and bloating @Flowerpower70 ! It was back in the day when we had to wear business dress at work; I had to buy elasticated waist skirts and even then they sometimes cut into me.

I was very nervous - I mainly worried that I might lose feeling in my pelvic area - when I came round from the anaesthetic, the first thing I did was check that hadn't happened - it was absolutely fine.

I was in a lot of pain for the first three days but as soon as that eased, my recovery was fine. It was quite pleasant to lie on the sofa feeling absolved from the normal pressures of housework or going to work. That was actually how I discovered MN, messing round on the internet in between reading and watching TV. I was pottering around within a week.

Tiredness was the main thing once the pain had eased, I've never felt so tired in my life! But I was well enough to go back to work after 8 weeks (phased return) and after three months or so, feeling better than I'd felt for decades!

No more periods is such a marvellous feeling - no more planning your life around it, calculating whether you'll be 'on' for this or that event, your holiday etc. And being spared the uncertainties of a natural menopause - knowing it's all over - it can't be underestimated what a boon that is.
