Lower back pain/ hip pain during ovulation and periods

So I haven’t had a proper period in years! I went on the pill at 16, I think the implant started at 19 and had it in until 28 and then had 2 babies in the space of 4 years, I am now 32 and since having my baby in July, I have decided to just let my body do its thing. I feel quite inexperienced as the contraception made me not have heavy periods and was always spotting and very light, but now they are horrendous! And I don’t remember them being this bad from when I first got my period up until that age of 16 but that was a very long time ago.

I am experiencing all sorts of pains and emotions that I never did before, but the pains being the worst for me. Is it normal to get extreme lower back pain and hip pain from a period and also round the ovulation stage? I am currently ovulating going by the tracking app and I can tell that I am as well, but I am in soooo much pain! And then the same thing happens when I am due on. And it’s not just my lower back, it’s also round where my kidneys are and round the lower from of my pelvis area and hips.

Is this all normal because my god?!!!!!! Not far off mild labour pains to be totally honest.

Have you sought medical advice re this issue to date?. If not please seek medical advice from your GP in the first instance and ask for a referral to a gynaecologist. The pill and such like can help with the symptoms but do not address the cause.

Pain like you describe is not normal and pain with endometriosis can be severe. Any pain that is cyclical in nature and or gets worse up to and including menses should be checked out to see if endometriosis is present. If finances permit then I would go private to see a gynae for an initial consultation; I suggest that too as waiting lists for gynaecology are miles long in many areas. Am no expert at all but I've had similar symptoms and it was all down to endometriosis. This is usually diagnosed through a keyhole surgery op called a laparoscopy; it is not readily detected via internal ultrasound scans or blood tests.

I would also keep a daily pain and symptom diary if you do not already do this and can provide the gynae clues.

Yes, strong cramps and back/hip pain can be normal after years on contraception, but see a gynecologist if pain is severe or bleeding is very heavy.

This is a wild guess but it sounds that this is similar to the hormonal effect you get when pregnant when your ligaments and joints loosen up. You also get at menopause. Sounds like you should get your hormone levels checked.

Ive got endometriosis and adenomyosis and I second what the above poster has said. Its giving me hell again after having it treated in 2021. And playing havoc with peri menopause with all the symptoms you have describe. ask to be referred to gynae or endometriosis clinic xx
