Septate hymen

I'm 37. Just had a doctors appointment for mid cycle spotting and the nurse said it appeared I had "2 entrances" and was confused and hcalled the doctor in for a second opinion. She confirmed that it appeared like I had a septate hymen and asked if sex was uncomfortable. I had sex for the first time at 19, and vaginal sex ever since was uncomfortable. At first I thought it was normal, then in my 20's I thought I had vaginismus. Later found out I had a tilted uterus so I thought that explained it and never went to the GP or thought about any further investigations. I just thought it was something I'd had since a teen and that was that. I got pregnant a few years ago and had a baby. Had a c section because my waters broke and didn't progress and I didn't want to be put on a drip. Also had multiple smears and maybe one other internal exam years ago but neither found it. The doctor said she only could feel it with her fingers and not when she put the spectum in.

Just wondering if anyone else has had one and what happens next. I have a refferal to gynae.

My DD who is 16 has one, which we found out after not one but two occasions where a stuck tampon resulted in a hospital visit to remove it. She's now on the waiting list for surgery.

I don't think it's a well known thing - I thought hymens (is that the plural?!) were (notoriously) fragile! I don't know much more than you do, but posting in solidarity.

Oh god that must have been traumatic for her! That was always my worry with tampons even when I had no idea I was more at risk of them getting stuck. I only used them on a few occasions swimming but amazingly never had an issue. I think it's great your daughter found hers now though and it won't affect her after shes had it removed.

It was a bit traumatic - all she wanted was to forget she had a period for a while, and it turned into a medical emergency! My worry now is that she will have to live with it for years before the NHS has time for her. I hope you get seen soon and it makes things easier for you.

If finances permit I would go private. Waiting times for gynaecology are miles long in many areas.

Well thats my worry now I want it done as soon as possible, but likely to be awhile. How long has she been waiting out of interest?

About nine months so far.

Oh wow 😧
Have you had an initial appointment with gynecolgogy and your waiting for a surgery slot or haven't even been seen by them yet?

No, not been seen yet - nothing since the GP referred her.

I've no idea what to expect for waiting time, really. DD hoped it would be before her GCSEs (which she's currently sitting) but I wasn't hopeful for that. Before her A Levels would be nice!!

I would call them and see where she is on the list and say you could come short notice for a cancellation or something and see if that speeds things up! 9 months seems ridiculous.
