Help needed tonight for my poor mangled nethers!

MangledNethers · Yesterday 21:40

I had a hysteroscopy under general anaesthetic today to get biopsies for possible endometrial cancer. I’ve had previous conscious attempts to get a Pipelle biopsy but they can’t get in because I’ve had an ablation in the past.

I’m in agony this evening every time I have a wee, as whatever elephantine speculum they used to get in there has ripped my vulva to shreds by stretching it - all my skin down there is very delicate despite being on HRT and breaks at the drop of a hat, even from wearing pads, which I’ve had to do recently because of this unexpected bleeding.

Anyway, the agony. I have ordered some of the good barrier cream which the nurse gave me a couple of years ago when she tore me doing my smear test, but that won’t be here until, realistically, tomorrow afternoon.

WHAT THE HELL DO I DO UNTIL THEN?

I’ve just had a warm salt bath which made me cry. I am in complete agony weeing, and the massive pads I am having to wear for the bleeding are just making it worse.

Please, wise women, hit me with any and all ideas you have, preferably from experience so you can vouch for them. I am knackered from the GA this morning so too much experimentation is out. DH isn’t supposed to leave me for 24 hours, but could probably do so in the morning - our nearest late pharmacy isn’t really late and is already closed tonight. Obvs am drinking as much as I can stomach to keep my wee dilute, but that doesn’t even seem to be helping!

Germaloid cream: zinc with lidocaine. Use just eat or deliveroo - you’ll find a garage open with it!

Sadly just eat and deliveroo don’t cover the bit of rural England I live in, and that’s also why the late night pharmacy shuts at 9pm

The only thing that works for me is victory oil. I’ve tried everything and this doesn’t sting etc. I have several prolapses and wear pads 24/7 the menopause has kicked my ass-I’m 45 and on hrt. Anyway victory oil is wonderful! I hope you get some relief soon.

AliasGr4ce · Yesterday 23:27

Good luck OP
i support the jug of warm water advice and if it’s really bad just hang out in the bath and wee away. Incidentally weeing in the bath was also the way my sister passed her excruciating kidney stones (had spent a night in A&E on morphine for them previously).

Missingthesea · Yesterday 23:31

This was me a few weeks ago! Solidarity, OP. I used Cystopurin to make my urine more alkaline, and Vagisil ointment. Hope fully you can at least get some in the morning.
Tena Lady pads are unscented and are fine for bleeding.

Restlessdreams1994 · Yesterday 23:40

Vaseline! Stops it drying and cracking further and protects it from the sting of the urine.

CookiePookie · Yesterday 23:45

This foam. Amazing stuff! I am so sorry for the ineptly stupidly long link:

Vaseline ? Would that soothe the area ?
A great big handful on the pad.
I hope something helps. 🤗

Dontgoforward · Yesterday 23:48

I really do feel so much for you OP. I've not had this experience but I did tear my uretha in 2 places with my first child (and a terrified me refused to have them stitched after)
My midwife said no to sudacrem but the GP said yes. Oh dear I was crying on the floor screaming it hurt so much, but once I'd that first initial agonising application it didn't hurt to top up and definitely helped with the stinging of weeing.

I've seen you said it was really painful but now the first layer is on it might not be so bad to layer up. I really hope you find some genuine relief! I had maternity pads with ice packs and witch hazel built in. But period pants or reusable pads may be a better option for you!

thequeenoftarts · Yesterday 23:52

Ouch you poor thing. I recall giving birth with tons of stitches, and weeing in a bath or bucket of warm water with epsom salts in there was the only thing that gave me relief, Feel better soon xx

Onefortheroad25 · Today 00:02

You poor thing, that sounds awful. Peeing in the bath or shower might help. Hope you get better soon.

bettybadger · Today 00:04

A lanolin cream such as Lanolips would help - soothing, non-stinging & a good barrier. Hope you heal quickly!

Helpmechooseausername · Today 00:22

Ooh you poor thing. My lady bits get very sore when I use period pads, and they haven't been through half of what your bits have endured! I switched to tena lady pads and they don't irritate at all x

Great suggestions. The bath one might be deployed tonight.

The bleeding is too heavy to take your very good suggestion about bed up, I fear. I am a very wriggly sleeper and we have all white bed linen 😬

I used to try and fail to sleep on a pile of towels before I had my ablation when I was going through a super plus tampon and a maxi pad every hour, and the bleeding tonight is like a very heavy period, so I don’t think I’d manage to sleep. I hope it works for someone else though!

DH is laughing his head off at my current conversational gambits and non-sequiturs and the way I am talking to him as if he can hear the thoughts in my head but haven’t actually said out loud. He’ threatening to turn off the WiFi unless I start going to bed to try to sleep off the effects of the GA now.

Sleep well, all, and thank you all.

For the last decade I've had terribly heavy periods. Despite using huge pads, I can flood overnight. After a few occasions of having to wash bedding and mattress protector, I started sleeping on an incontinence pad which I puton top of the sheet. Much easier to wash than full bedding. I got mine from here https://shop.conni.com.au/bed-pads You would no doubt have similar in the UK / Amazon

ETA I am an "active" sleeper who has rolled out of a king sized bed. The covers work fine.

thequeenoftarts · Today 00:42

OOH I recall seeing this ages ago on a things you need to know about giving birth page...........Wet a sanitary pad and put in the freezer, wrap in cloth and numb your bits then wee. You can use witch hazel too once chemist is open tomorrow xx

Soulhorse · Today 00:49

Just to add, Sudocrem is not a barrier cream - you need Cavilon or equivalent. It will withstand gentle rinsing with warm water without the need to reapply. Vaseline is a good option as well. Hope you heal soon op.

Swissrailways · Today 00:51

Doughnut cushion to sit on, or a kids swim ring. I stole one from the hospital after a bad childbirth tear.

VegemiteOnToast · Today 01:02

I've had a hysteroscopy plus stents added /removed (so 3 procedures) involving my urethra in the last few months. I understand the pain. Take ibuprofen for swelling, spritz with warm water while peeing too. Add extra pain killers as prescribed as needed. I found that the pain on day 2 was significantly reduced as the swelling decreased. I hope yours improves soon too!

DoYouWantHalfThisSandwich · Today 01:13

💐 @MangledNethers I’ve not had children, but I do have an autoimmune disease that throws off some wonderful & bizarre symptoms - one of which is painful, agonising sores on both my inner & outer labia. I’ve also had ‘Barbie Butt’ surgery, so lots of delicate skin issues there! I second the suggestions of Cavilon & a lidocaine based ointment. In fact the lidocaine ointment was the only thing that got me through post cone biopsies & ablation of aforementioned sores. I also recommend a doughnut cushion, warm baths, & regular pain relief. With regard to the Cavilon, there is a stronger strength available, but it requires a prescription or your local District Nurse getting it for you (The NHS can be a little funny about it, cost I presume! My District Nursing Team were delighted when I gave them
my unopened supply!) Sending lots of very un-Mumsnetty hugs & support 💐

changedusername190 · Today 02:47

Pour warm water mixed with bicarbonate of soda as it neutralises any acid. You can also mix it up in a spray bottle and spray on when required

HoppingPavlova · Today 03:01

I’m someone who finds wee’ing in the shower utterly disgusting. However, in this situation (and post birth with stitches), I’d definitely give a free pass. Use the shower head directly on the area with warm water while doing a wee.

Iocanepowder · Today 03:08

I came to add suggestion of strong painkillers if you haven’t already had any? Anything like cocodamol? I feel for you op, must be horrendous :(

MrsClatterbuck · Today 03:20

Sorry only reading this now but when I had very bad thrush I had a bath with tea tree oil added.
It was really soothing and I was then able to get to sleep. I might have used more oil than it said on the bottle.

ForCosyLion · Today 03:27

I honestly don't know if you're better off with heat or ice. Maybe ask 111?

I second the advice about pouring warm water over yourself as you go to the loo. That's what helped me when I had sore nether regions. And take ibuprofen to help with the swelling.

EvieBB · Today 04:45

moose62 · Yesterday 22:19

If all else fails, I know it sounds revolting but I went whilst sitting in a warm tea tree oil bath. Just enough water to cover the area and then rinse.

You gotta do what you gotta do x
