Sore armpit pain radiating to breast and arm, should I worry?

My armpit has been sore for a few days, like a dull, ache which I can't really explain. Sometimes, it radiates down the outer left of my breast and sometimes down to my elbow on the outside of my arm. I don't know if it's all connected or not.

I am on the couch, a lot, throughout the day because I type and WFH.

I do walk etc but I don't lift weights or anything.

I shaved last week and I use natural deodorant which has an anti-perspirant and gives me a terrible rash so I have to use it intermittently. I use it for a few days, then stop when the rash comes, wait for it to go and repeat. There is currently no rash, only pain, but I did use the deodorant 3x in the last couple of days. It has, in the past, made my armpit hurt with no signs of rash etc.

I've been online and researched "armpit pain" and all I see is articles about breast cancer, or that's all my head will let me see, because I have severe carcinophobia.

There are no lumps. I've gone way deep into the armpit, breast, under the arm etc. I read that there doesn't have to be lumps to be a problem and now I just don't know how much to worry.

The pain comes and goes but seems more constant in the last few days.

Can anyone help with experience? Should I see a doctor or is it okay to wait and see? If so, for how long?

Thanks. You may see a few posts from me. I have health anxiety and I am not great at knowing when I'm reacting appropriately or over/under reacting.

I'd be more concerned about a heart attack than breast cancer tbh, but I'm not a health professional and since it's something that hasn't just come on but has been there for a few days, it's unlikely to be that either. I know you said you have health anxiety, but if you're concerned, I'd give 111 a ring (or put in an e-consult request to your GP so that you can speak to someone on Monday).

If you typing on the couch it might be muscular.
Sit at a proper desk or table in a proper chsir
See your gp

As a veteran of cancer x 3, the insidious thing about cancer is that it very rarely starts with pain, or even discomfort.

I would see your GP, if it continues. But I'd put the idea of cancer very much on the back burner.

I’ve had this for years now. Went to the GP, referred to breast clinic, scans etc was told it was peri-menopause and hormones. So it can be nothing serious. No harm in getting it checked but on my experience I wouldn’t worry.

@cestlavielife @Facecream24 @SylvanMoon @user1471453601 Thank you all very much for your kind words and assistance. I don't know what I'd do without people like you, sometimes. I'd probably be locked up somewhere or bankrupt from GP appointments. I really do thank you. ❤

I’ve had that before, very uncomfortable and painful. Especially when driving etc had myself worried sick. Ended up getting an ultrasound and it was just blocked cyst that cleared up itself. Just get it checked to be on the safe side and get some peace of mind ☺️

I had similar pain and went to private physio. The only way I could explain it was sciatica type pain but in my shoulder.

sittingonabeach · 19/04/2026 01:09

Do you not use a desk when typing when WFH? Could be caused by bad posture

ShouldIStaySelfIsolated · 19/04/2026 01:17

I had this, only the pain was more concentrated in the breast radiating into my armpit. I was terrified. My GP was amazing and asked me to check it for a month or so to see if it was cyclical (and therefore hormone related). She also did a blood test to.look for certain markers and my hormones.

For 2 cycles it seemed to be, but in the third month it was constant, so the GP arranged for me to have a mammogram. It came back clear so the conclusion was hormonal. It lasted another month or so then disappeared without a trace in January last year.

Every Dr I spoke to said pain was unlikely to mean cancer

Hopefully this is reassuring, but there are investigations that can be done if you are really concerned.

OchreSnake · 19/04/2026 01:24

Pain does not mean it is unlikely to be cancer @ShouldIStaySelfIsolated I had pain in my armpit dull and shooting. Turned out to be stage 3 breast cancer. @WorriedWarthog You need to see a GP.

Thanks all for your help.

Last night, I washed all of the deodorant off and slept upright in bed, in case I was sleeping on my arm but not knowing. I also changed the way I sat on the sette and, this morning, I had no pain at all.

I had to use the deodorant when walking, washed it off when I got home, and no pain.

My DD was telling me that she gets what seems like deep muscle pain when she uses deodorant that doesn't agree with her.

Not sure.

Thanks all for the assistance.

Interesting- I think I’m having the same experience. Was it Dove by any chance?
