Period Problems. Advice needed

I am almost 32 years old and my period symptoms are getting much worse. Now I don’t know if this is due to age, or hormones changing after having 2 children, I’m not sure but my god it is becoming unbearable!

I never struggled before, all I ever experienced was period pains, but I was on the implant for 9 years and had this removed to have my children, so that may have helped with the horrible symptoms potentially. But after having my baby in July last year I decided to just let my body do what it’s supposed to do and stay natural and for the first time in years I had proper periods with no contraception. Unfortunately after not being on contraception I had severe PMDD symptoms so I decided to go on the pill to try and help regulate my symptoms which have helped slightly but now I am having a period constantly! And sometimes it’s not just light spotting, it’s like I am having 2 full on periods every month! Due to this, I am having to deal with feeling ill more often and it’s becoming debilitating. I currently feel sick, headache, heightened anxiety, on edge, irritable, emotional, I feel like I am going crazy! It’s a horrible feeling. I can’t even tell anymore if it’s hormones, age, perimenopause, a side effect to the pill. I just don’t know what to do anymore.

Does anyone know if there is anything for PMDD as I would love to come off the pill as I can’t keep having a period almost daily, it’s making me so ill! But I am scared to come off and have the awful PMDD symptoms come back which usually lasts a week before my period.

honestly being a woman is hard work and I feel there isn’t much out there that can help us.

Why don't you get the implant again given that you know that worked for you for nearly a decade?

I don't really get the idea that the "natural" process is inherently better. It's surely better to be well. Cancer is a natural process too and almost noone would decline medical intervention for that!

Hope you get relief soon, sounds awful!

I tried to come off the pill but I broke out in awful acne and spent 2 days out of every 28 debilitated with horrible pain and another week feeling angry and bloated. I'm back on the pill now and feel so much better, and I'm not anaemic any more. It can take a few months for your body to get used to it but if you're still bleeding maybe try a different once? Medicine isn't the devil and "natural" isn't better.

@Confuserrvery valid point. I was thinking about the implant again as for 9 years I had no problems at all and you don’t have to remember anything for 3 years until it’s time to replace it, but I was just so desperate to try and find a natural alternative. Since having children I suffer with severe health anxiety so the implant scares me now despite having it in for 9 years with no problems before. I’m a nightmare now, I can’t even eat nuts without having a panic attack thinking I’m going to have an allergic reaction!

@bedfrog my husband actually suggested to go doctors and ask to try a different pill, but as I mentioned above to a PP I have severe health anxiety so this scares me massively. It took me a lot of courage to take the pill I am on now (I am in cerelle) I am adamant this is also causing weight gain! I just hate taking anything 😩

Sorry to hear that. I think you know that isn't normal and will make your life difficult. The implant is nothing to fear, you know your own body reacted very well to it before. You can have exactly the same brand again. Just like nuts, if you weren't allergic before you won't be now. It might be worth seeking a bit of support for your health anxiety - even if it's just a chat with a friend or your GP. I sympathise, I had this too after a family member died unexpectedly. But it can be treated and your life will improve loads without the worry! And with no endless periods x

Antidepressants work for PMDD. Could you try that?

ETA - it’s often taken for two weeks of the month for PMDD. But if you took it continuously it might also help with the anxiety.

Ahh health anxiety can't be fun. I agree with your husband though. What is it you're anxious about? The pill is a low risk safe medicine, it wouldn't be so widely prescribed for so long if it wasn't. If you can tolerate the pill you're on, then you will be fine with another Smile

Or have another implant as you know that works for you. They all have very low hormone levels Smile
