Any downsides to hysterectomy?

As the title says, are there any downsides to having a hysterectomy?
I started my periods age 11, and they were problematic from the start. I have always believed I have endometriosis, but I’ve never been able to persuade a GP to pursue an investigation of this. I had horrendously painful periods, but also pain a lot of the time between.
I was unable to have children, unsuccessful IVF.
Had menopausal symptoms since late 30s, started on HRT mid 40s.
I am now 49 and still having periods, still in pain.
In my mind, I just want to remove the part of my body that’s causing and has always caused me pain. I’m not sure whether the GP will be bothered having had no interest previously, but I could afford to go private.
But are there any downsides I should be aware of? I mean for example would I be at risk of anything health-wise through not having a womb/ovaries? Will it bring my menopause to a close finally or make the symptoms worse?

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I'm about to pursue a hysterectomy as further endometriosis operations are not advised for me.

I won't have surgery of that severity outside an nhs hospital (or private hospital with an icu). Endometriosis has adhered various organs together and increases my risk of bowel incision. A hospital, even a private one, with a consultant surgeon is treated as a "place of safety " by 999, even when you really need ICU. So I wouldn't risk a private hysterectomy with unknown endometriosis.

What I would do is get private investigation of your symptoms, potentially have exploratory surgery and then go from there. If it isn't endometriosis but something else, then a private hysterectomy might make sense. But a diagnosis will help your GP advocate for you.

I had a private hysterectomy here in Portugal, where I live, in 2010. Best. Thing. Ever.

The only downside? Orgasms aren’t quite the same.

A friend of mine was in your position a few years ago @ArtemisNutella. Apart from the (not short- about 4 months off work ) surgical recovery, it took 18 months to get the balance of her HRT right afterwards, and she felt as unwell as before the surgery most of that time. She is an extreme case, but don’t underestimate the sudden impact of a surgical menopause.
