Thyroid and skin conditions

I was diagnosed with underactive thyroid at the age of 13. Since having my two children my condition has got worse and dosage has needed to be increased. I’ve now found that taking my tablets causes the skin on my face to flare up, specifically around my eyes. Although I do think stress is partly to blame too.

Does anyone else suffer with this. My skin feels like it’s on fire. Even water irritates it. Open to suggestions as to what to use. My dermatologist is useless.

Ouch that looks sore. Maybe you need an endocrinologist rather than a dermatologist.
Have you tried barrier creams? It looks almost like a reaction to your tears.

I have under-active thyroid as-well and often used to get itchy, puffy, swollen eyelids. There are loads of side effects that affect your skin when you are hypo.
Do you eat gluten and dairy? If you do then I would advise giving them up entirely. I am three years gf/df and my symptoms have dramatically reduced, my sleep has improved and my antibodies went from over 300 to 80.
I’m not saying it cured all symptoms but they improved dramatically.
I also see a thyroid specialist now who prescribes T4/T3 and LDN. All in all much better!

Sorry to hear you're having to deal with this. I think different types / brands of thyroxine supplements have different filler ingredients in them, so it could be worth talking to your doctor about the filler ingredients and whether it's worth trying a different one (eg I think there's one that is lactose free, not sure if that's relevant for you, buy you might be reacting to a filler ingredient of some kind)

It’s not a lupus butterfly rash is it? As we are prone to other auto immune diseases as sufferers of hypothyroidism (hashimotos)

I am under a consultant and they’ve suggested I try the liquid form of thyroxine to try to confirm that it may be the filler ingredients that I’m allergic to. Also awaiting skin testing to also confirm this and ensure it’s not anything else. I currently have anti inflammatory cream to apply but nothing works. I tried cutting out dairy before but that didn’t really make a difference. It seems to calm down when I stop taking my medication but obviously that’s not ideal x
