Endometriosis - MRI or Laparoscopy

I'm currently under testing for endometriosis and my gynaecologist has referred me for an MRI scan. They said if that is unsuccessful I will need a laparoscopy.
For anyone who has had either or both were you successful in finding endometriosis if you had it?

I got an ultrasound and it showed nothing which was predicted. So I’ve now been on the lap waiting list for 2 years and only now just offered surgery.

OP I’d be surprised if they saw it on MRI. I will say that after my ultrasound they spent a year fobbing me off. Don’t let them - make sure you get that laparascopy if needed.

It hardly ever shows up on an MRI. I've had numerous laps for it and if they are able to they will treat it at the same time such a laser removal. MRI would be a waste of time.

A laparoscopy is the usual way endometriosis is diagnosed so I’d push for this.

Laparoscopy never showed on scans or MRI.

I’ve had both. Laparoscopy with gynae first where they removed what they could. Due to concerns about how far it had infiltrated into abdo and bowel, was then sent to MRI to determine if needing 2nd surgery with gynae plus colorectal surgeon next time. Extensive findings on MRI too. Not all the way to the anus - but into the rectum. Nice 🙃. Not.

You need a radiographer who has expertise in endometriosis and knows what to look for. My daughter just had an MRI and they found endometriosis. It was not visible on an ultrasound, but she has severe symptoms.

Endometriosis doesn't show on an MRI in 30-50% of cases.

I have read that if they remove it, you should ask for excision not ablation.
