Strong sense of smell

Over the past few months I notice a strong, not very pleasant smell in my living room. No one else in my house can smell it, and neither do visitors. I don't know what is causing it. I notice the bad smell for a while and then for 2 or 3 weeks it goes again, then comes back all of a sudden. Is this a hormonal thing? I can't understand what it is!

I know my sense of smell went super sensitive during peri. Things I maybe wouldn’t have even noticed before drove me to distraction/overwhelmed me/made me feel ill, so if no one else can smell it it’s possible it’s hormonal.

Have you crawled across the floor and sniffed every inch of carpet/rug? Smelt the curtains? Can sofa cover be washed? Dead bird down the chimney? Something dead or rotting foliage in a plant pot?

The possibilities are endless, but if it was something awful I think others would be able to smell it tbh.

I have tried looking everywhere, its as if it comes from one particular chair area, I washed the covers in the summer and left them to dry outside but it didn't make a difference! As I say, the smell seems to disappear for weeks and then come back again! Thanks for your reply.

Ive had this all my life.

I also suffer with migraines

I think theres something nuerological about it but nothing has ever been picked up in a brain scan

It can be a feature of something sinister, it can be horomonal or just how you are

I smell things like cigarette smoke, burnt toast, dampness. Its never anything nice.
