Bleeding after sex

Just before Christmas I had a significant bright red bleed after sex, I went to the GP who referred me to gynae. I was seen by the gynae who did an internal exam, i also had an internal ultrasound whilst there and i was told ultrasound normal but i had a small ectropion and a hypertrophic cervix - apparently common after kids, of which i have 2. I've always been HPV negative too with last smear 8 months ago.

I was referred to colposcopy which I had last week. They said I have a perfectly healthy cervix, and she specifically said she was trying to make me bleed. They confirmed ectropion, but I didn't bleed at all - not even any spotting.

Today I built up the courage to have sex again and low and behold, bleeding! Bright red, stopped within minutes. It was very gentle this time and I don't think my cervix was touched at all.

What could this be? I spent Christmas worrying about the worst case outcomes with all the tests etc and for this to be happening again is just to anxiety inducing.

I don't see how it could be the ectropion anyway since the colposcopist couldn't make me bleed, so what on earth is it?

Sorry to be crude, but are you sure it's from you and not blood-stained jizz? (Apologies if your partner isn't male, I've made assumptions here)

If it is from you, it will look more when mixed with vaginal fluids/ands or semen.

I had an ectropian and didn’t bleed after the colposcopy but I did after sex, for quite some time until it resolved itself eventually. It sounds like they’ve been quite thorough with tests and are satisfied the cause is nothing to worry about, so try to relax.

It can happen more commonly at certain times of the month, as your cervix changes with hormones.
Maybe try tracking over the course of a few months and see.

Yes, definitely from me!

That's interesting. The bleeding is like the start of a period, bright red and quite a fair amount. I just struggle with the idea that someone purposefully trying to provoke bleeding couldn't yet sex can!

I do think the action of someone scratching at your cervix with a brush is very different to it being repeatedly pounded by something firm though..!

I previously found I have ever so slight bleeding around ovulation time, just due to the cervix being open and hormones beinf different. But it was never loads.

The fact you've had tests is reassuring.

Maybe as PP said, record when it's happening and if it's linked to certain stage in your cycle. So position and using lube etc may help depending on your age, things change a lot for women with their hormones.

Presuming you've done a pregnancy test and ruled that out too?

I wasn't even sure what she was doing when she said she was "trying to make me bleed" (I didn't want to look at the screen) but I guess you're right.

As it goes, today's has turned in to a period. I was due on but didn't actually think about that!

Doesnt explain last time, but we'll have to wait and see.

Strangely the nurse practitioner who saw me originally at the GP had said I had a "polyp" which neither the gynae or colposcopist have mentioned, so now I'm thinking.. has it been missed?
