Large ovarian cyst. Worries around surgery

I've recently turned 40 and for around 3 months I noticed my stomach was starting to get larger. I didn't think anything of it as I was exercising less and naively thought that I was going through perimenopause.
Fast forward 2 months later and I could see that this wasn't usual weight gain. My abdomen was rock hard, my belly button became an outie and I was getting horrid indigestion, back pain and bloating. My menstrual cycle had gone down to 3 weeks with heavy bleeding and clotting. In November I contacted the GP and she put me through for a 2WW referral for suspected gynaecological cancer. My CA125 marker was 35 so not completely elevated but still of concern
A transvaginal ultrasound picked up a 15cm ovarian cyst with smaller cysts inside and hydronephrosis of a kidney.
The likelihood is I will need a laparatomy to remove the cyst and I'm absolutely petrified. I had a C-section with my son which led to a wound haematoma and I remember how terrible the recovery was.
Has anyone had a similar situation with a large ovarian cyst? I keep going through all the worst case scenarios in my head of having all my reproductive organs removed and the side effects such as surgical menopause, incontinence etc. I'm just wondering if anyone had a positive surgery and recovery of a cyst removal.

In my late 40s I had a similar sized cyst removed, but with keyhole surgery - stayed overnight as the op was done in the afternoon, but home the next day. I was off work for 4 weeks , very sore for the first 2 weeks.
I was very anxious before as I had had previous problems with general anaesthetic, but knowing this was given an experienced team and all was well. After previous complications I hope they will keep a close watch on your healing.
For me waiting for the op was the worst bit!

I also had a cyst (along with the ovary it was attached to) about that size removed by keyhole surgery. It was sore but not that bad. It all healed up well with no issues - basically 3 wounds where they put the "tools" in!
I stayed overnight 2 nights. They did "nick" a piece of bowel during the op but that got sewn up and there was no issues. I think I was off work for about 4 weeks but I had a fairly active job then.
I don't know for sure if this was related, but my periods did stop not long after that - maybe 6 months. But then I was 47 so at that age.

I've been pretty much told by the consultant that die to the side and location that laparoscopic is not an option as they believe it will rupture. I have no idea how the cyst has become so huge in such a short period of time and I struggled with recovery after my C-section and haematoma wound that the thought of any more complications is making me so depressed
