lichen sclerosus

I saw a gynaecologist 2 weeks ago regarding issues I have been having. She said she thinks it’s lichen sclerosus due to the redness and white patch I have. She prescribed me Dermovate which I have to use once a day but I haven’t found much relief from it yet. Does anyone else have this condition? What were your symptoms as I always thought it was white patches and that LS was not red. How long did the steriod cream take to work for you

How are you applying it?
I only got relief when I ignored the Drs instructions and followed the instructions a helpful poster added on a previous thread.
Morning and night for two weeks USING A MIRROR TO APPLY.
Made the world of difference. Without the mirror it was mostly smearing around, not really getting onto the patches and just sticking to my finger, it honestly wasn’t obvious that was happening until I started using the mirror. The mirror helped hugely.

I was also very red in the beginning, those areas have now turned into white patches.

What age are you? Topical oestrogen has meant fewer flare ups and discomfort for me, but you can only use if over 50 years old.

I have lichen planus, which is white patches and inflames red sometimes. I have it everywhere, hands, feet, ankles, genitals, even in my mouth.

Largely the symptoms are itchiness. Steroids help calm it down but it isn’t going away, I’ve had it for years. They started to work in the first week.

I also second topical oestrogen. That fixed a lot of menopause issues I didn’t realise I had. I would also recommend seeing a dermatologist.

Dr Jill Krapf has some useful YouTube videos showing how best to apply the cream, washing etc. there’s a useful Facebook group for UK too.

I’m 34. I use a mirror each time to apply but only each night

Applying it just nightly did nothing for me.
Morning and night gave relief within days, totally cleared up within the 2 weeks. Now, when it flares up, that’s how I apply it and it eases so quickly. I stick to the two weeks application to ensure it’s fully recovered before I stop.
