Breast lump described as “somewhat fixed”.

I have previously had 2 benign breast cysts and was told by the consultant that I have lumpy breast tissue. I have found another lump so went to the GP this morning telling myself that it’s more than likely another cyst; however when I’ve looked on my notes on the NHS app she has described the lump as “somewhat fixed” which has made me spiral a bit!

Has anyone else had a fixed, or somewhat fixed, breast lump that has turned out to be nothing sinister?

Clinical examination and the documentation of it is so subjective OP. Presumably the GP has made a referral? Try not to worry.

Yes she put a referral in on the 2 week pathway so hopefully won’t wait too long before I know for sure. She did say it feels like a cyst and you’re absolutely right everything is so subjective so I know the only way to find out for sure is to investigate further. The description of it being somewhat fixed has just spooked me a bit but hopefully it’s nothing to worry about. Thanks for your reply.

Bump - in the hope others may come along and reply. I’ve received my appointment at the breast clinic and it is 4 weeks away - I don’t think I can cope with the anxiety I’m currently feeling for that long. I can’t afford to go private and have tried ringing other hospitals with breast assessment units within the area but they all have similar wait times. Can anyone who has been in a similar situation with a fixed breast lump that turned out to be benign offer any reassurance?

If you phone the hospital breast unit you can ask to be put on a cancellation list to take appointments at short notice if you are able to do short notice. That reduced mine from 3 weeks to 1 week when I did it.

If a GP has said its like a cyst then I would get it checked but would be somewhat reassured by that. Cancer is totally fixed not somewhat.

Thank you so much, I have been added to the cancellation list but was advised it’s very long! I’m just going to ring each day too in the hope that someone might have cancelled and the fact I’m on maternity leave so could go at the drop of a hat might work in my favour. I’m just so so anxious 😩

I was put on a cancellation list after a repeat of postmenopausal bleeding having previously been on the 2 week wait pathway for the same. Had a phone call from the hospital asking if I could get there within the hour for a scan, said yes and had it done. Nothing untoward found which was good. Try to keep busy and not to worry however because I spent a lot of time really worried for no reason. You know that you are on the list and keep your phone ringer on in case you get an earlier call.

I’m glad everything worked out well for you, it’s such a worry isn’t it? Thank you so much, I actually rang and asked to be put on the cancellation list after a previous poster suggested this and the hospital called last night with a cancellation for next week so at least it’s less time to worry.

Just wanted to update for anyone who is in the same boat and looking here for reassurance as I was. I attended my appointment today and the radiologist thought my lump is probably a lymph node when viewing it on the ultrasound. She took a biopsy to be sure and said the lump got visibly smaller when punctured by the needle which is a really reassuring sign. I need to wait 2 weeks for the results but was sent away feeling really reassured.
