Cervical polyp

Hello,

Does anyone have experience with having a cervical polyp removed?

Had a transvaginal ultrasound today for occasional spotting, apparently all was fine apart from she could see a cervical polyp. Apparently they are very common and she said not to worry but gynae will normally remove, it's standard in our area. I have health anxiety so I'm still worrying of course.

I think I'm looking for a bit of reassurance from those who have been through this... would be grateful to hear any positive stories. What was the procedure like, etc?

Edited to add - I'm 40, 3dc.

Had one removed at the beginning of the year. They sent it for testing and everything was fine. During the procedure I did ask for a local anaesthetic as it became too uncomfortable and I was numbed and it was removed very quickly. Try not to worry, ask for a local before they start if you would rather not feel anything. It's just a quick scratch feeling then no pain.

Forgot to add I've had a womb biopsy too a few months ago, similar procedure starts like a smear a bit of tugging I didn't need a local for the biopsy. All I'd say at any point you want them to stop just say so.

@Icecreamhelps thank you, that's reassuring. I hope all is well now x

I had one removed from my cervix that has been there for 5 years - I had a general anaesthetic and didn’t know a thing about it and all was fine after procedure 👍

Just had one removed, very similar to a smear and the gynaecologist just twisted(!) it off in the first appointment. Not painful at all and spotting for about a week after.

I had to have a follow-up hysteroscopy to check for remnants in the cervical canal as the polyp was quite high up. I took two paracetamols an hour in advance as advised and asked for a local anaesthetic. Again no pain really, a fair bit of bleeding immediately after (period like) and spotting for a week after.

Still waiting for histology results, but trying not to stress about those...

I was frantically googling for first-hand experiences before my procedure so hopefully this is useful! Happy to answer any questions.
