How long did it take hormones to calm down if you have a hysterectomy including removal of ovaries near the menopause milestone?

That's the question really. I'm 51. GP/Consultant thinks I'm near the menopause milestone and I'm on the list for a full lap (hopefully) hysterectomy including cervix and ovaries.

I've had so many gynae issues and have been having a terrible time in peri. The hysterectomy is because I now have fibroids, heavy bleeding, issues with progesterone and now the tranexamic acid has stopped working. I'm now keen for the op because it should speed me through the hormonal upheaval and get me 'out the other side' faster. I know that some people have symptoms that never go away.

Unfortunately, I've also just been made redundant and have not performed well in interviews, partly because of the additional progesterone (which I have now stopped taking).

I think I probably need to stop trying to get a job until this has calmed down a bit (and I am fortunately that we can afford that) but I'm wondering if I am dillusional about how long it may take to feel better (hormonally) after surgery.

I know everyone is different. I'm asking for people's experiences of mood and symptom improvements after full hysterectomy/ovary removal please?

I had a total hysterectomy at 45, but looking back peri started around 38. I was a hormonal wreck pre hysterectomy.(fibroids, flooding, Endo)
For some reason they said I couldn’t start HRT until one month post op. That month was fine, certainly less hormonal than pre op, but I did have severe hot flushes. I started HRT and the hot flushed stopped, the anxiety lessened and I was just generally feeling like the old me in no time at all.

I hope all goes smoothly and things improve for you quickly.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I have had such a horrible 6 years or so. This is exactly what I am hoping for and really needed to hear it.

I know everyone is different and I need to brace myself but knowing that what you have described is possible is a great relief. Thank you

My friend had total hysterectomy in her 30s, I think it was all done in a month.
