Due to have a polyp removed next week and have been offered a mirena coil fitted after the procedure. I’m really not too sure why it’s needed? I’m 46 and do not use any hormone contraception or hrt so unsure if I should go for it?

I googled and there's some evidence ti show Mirena prevents polyps. However I had cervical polyps only AFTER having the Mirena fitted.

I had a few mirena coils. Last one aged 50.
Anecdotally, I sailed through the menopause and had no periods through my mirena years which was brilliant as I had been suffering long and heavy periods.

How interesting. Agreed research suggestions it helps prevent them so thank you for sharing that it’s not necessarily the case 🙏🏻

Thanks for sharing maybe worth looking into to reduce those heavy periods. Did you have them the earliest ones fitted as part of the procedure?
