Endo laparoscopy next steps

Had a laparoscopy to investigate endometriosis 3 weeks ago and was told they found endo and did ablation (I know not the best but I wasn't given an option) on what they could. But they couldn't get to some of it behind my ovary.

Consultant said she would leave it as an open referral for 6 months so to call back if I need to.

Is that it? Are women just told "yep, you've got endo, call us if you need to."? There's no follow up appointment to talk about it, no management plan? I'm baffled by it. I've been diagnosed with a chronic condition and basically been told if my symptoms have improved and I'm okay for 6 months, gynae will discharge me?

Yep. It sucks.
I came round the first time being told ‘yes you have it and we will need to do further surgery on a future date.’

My only advice would be to be seen again within the six months and not allow them to fully discharge you.

Mine was managed inadvertently by being on the contraceptive pill for many years, worsened dramatically when I got sterilised and gave up taking it.

Dsis’s was way worse than mine (offered a hysterectomy in her 20s after many failed treatments). For her the Mirena coil was life changing.

@marriednotdead it baffles me that they just diagnose a chronic condition and send you on your merry way!
Yes I think I'm going to definitely be seen within the 6 months so as not to be discharged.
I tried the coil and really didn't get on with it unfortunately. There was talk about an injection to put me into temporary menopause if surgery doesn't help. However, with that comes all the symptoms of the menopause 😬

Was this operation NHS or private?. If NHS was this at a BSGE centre hospital? I would be contacting PALS if it was NHS as you should have had a follow up appointment a week or so post lap to discuss the findings.

A lap should remove ends if it is found and they could not remove it all. I would certainly be seeing them again and do not let them discharge you.

BGSE centre website is bsge.org.uk. You may also want to look at the endometriosis uk website.

And I would talk to PALS also about ablation being offered as your only option too.

@AttilaTheMeerkat it was NHS. I've looked at the guidelines and they actually don't have to give you a follow up appointment after the op at all unfortunately! However, because I know there was definitely some left there and it's obvious my surgeons expertise weren't the best, then I'll definitely be speaking to them again and mentioning a referral to BSGE. My worry is that she said it was too vascular and when you look that up in terms of endo, it often means it's active or deep infiltrating
