initially on had really bad night sweats during menopause - was on hrt for a few years and thought i would try coming off it as i felt i put on some weight and also felt it only really stopped my night sweats and not much else oestrogen get and progesterone pill. I stopped and my night sweats are nothing on what they were previously but still a bit sweaty - wondering if anyone knows of anything else that helps stop the sweats?

Have you got a fan aimed at your face when you’re laying in bed? Tower fans are quietest. I have one near the bed and downstairs. Best purchases for years.

At the GPs suggestion, three years of misery in, I had had acupuncture, taken Black Cohosh for a couple of years then soya isoflavones for another four years. I was otherwise fit, ate simply and 'clean'...I was functional.
Menopause was brutal; roughly twenty hot flashes every day, much worse at night and all the symptoms just got worse.
Eventually strode into GPs office and said 'I've done all the alternative therapies you suggested. I want HRT, sleeping tablets and I want them now.' I had one more hot flash then was over it. (Although I did come down with left breast tubular cell carcinoma eight years later. It was easily fixed.)I
I don't know anyone who found their menopause symptoms reduced with anything else. Also, I think the woed 'climacteric' is better than menopause...more racey, more climaxy.

Evening primrose oil

I had a book called 'Eat to beat the menopause' containing recipes with foods high in phytoestrogens (seeds, soya etc) which helped me a lot. I've no idea if it's still available and even if phytoestrogens are now thought bad or whatever. And red wine, many years later, will still bring back night sweats.

here as suggested by @Rightsraptor

Hi OP.
My HRT even at a high level still didn't totally stop the night sweats.

My private gynae tested my oestrogen (Very high) and gave me a script for venlefaxine.

Thank god I checked the side effects and said no.

Thankfully my nightsweats disappeared about the same time. Every now and then I have one but that's it.

Go back on HRT.

Strangely, the antidepressant Citalopram can work. I read about it, asked GP for it and it worked. I had to chop the lowest dose tablet in half and take it before bed. It doesn't work if you are taking it for depression though.

I found sage tea helpful too.

HRT worked for me, but after two years I was diagnosed with triple positive breast cancer, so no more HRT for me.

My oncologist recommended I try sage, and it's definitely made a difference. There's a new drug, not available on the NHS, called Veozah I think, which you can pay for. And some anti-depressants are used for this, too.

HRT. And a wool duvet. The wool duvet really helped as did the HRT. It was my worst symptom to be honest.

I had to stop HRT in my early 50s after about 10 years. And the sweats only happen very occasionally now, like once a year, and usually only if I’ve had red wine…. I’ve still got the wool duvet. I’m not sure what else has changed ,….ive still got a mirena in.

Probably not helpful but for me it was time. I can't take HRT. Used to have awful night sweats, I'd be out in the garden in my vest top and pants at 2am in January trying to cool down in sub zero temperatures. Used to get about 20 hot flushes throughout the day as well.
Anyway it would seem I am now post menopause and now I only get occasional hot flushes and sometimes wake up hot at 5am but never before thankfully. It does get better, even without HRT.
