Coil fitting

Before I obliterate this memory from my mind, I went to have the Jaydess coil fitted today.

Argh I had to tell them to stop, it was too painful. It was the smallest speculum. I'd had 2 paracetamol beforehand.

They are going to write to the hospital - I think I'd be okay with gas and air if that's an option? Going under general seems a bit extreme.

I also wonder if vaginal estrogen might help? I'm 45 and not been sexually active for a year or two, it was painful inside.

The coil is to help try regulate hormones. Please don't mention HRT, as I definitely can't have it and it's outing and then I have to change my name 🤣

When i had my put in they gave me an injection to numb. Otherwise i wouldnt of been able to get it in!

You can request local anaethesia for the cervix. They don't tell you this. If you are struggling with the smallest speculum, you will defo need cervical anaesthesia.

Thanks I should have known as I need the small one for a smear. Think I just block them out! Also my last coil was so long ago, it was the 10 year one, I was younger and the shock just meant I accepted it.

That's good that there are some local options for pain relief. She did say she was putting a numbing gel on - well I didn't feel it 😭😂

Have you llresearvhed to see if maybe you have a tilted cervix? Can cause pain

Keroppi · 25/11/2025 22:29

Oops sorry for the typos I hit send too fast. You can sit on your fists for a better angle or lay on your left side if that's the case. Most women are never told!

JDM625 · 25/11/2025 22:32

Do you have a retroverted uterus? I do and for smears, was always told to ask for a long speculum. First time they used a long one- it was done within seconds. I know coil insertion can be trickier with a retroverted uterus, but not impossible. Have you had any vaginal births?

Arlanymor · 25/11/2025 22:36

Did you ask them to stop or did they? I was told to get one fitted for part of my whole perimenopause treatment and the Dr tried for five minutes (very uncomfortable) and then she said: "No way, it's too tilted I'm sorry."

PurpleSkies2026 · 25/11/2025 22:59

It's slightly tilted. She got me to sit on my fists.

What I need is a mirror as I just can't relax. I'm a fucking nightmare. I even know they aren't going to do anything sudden. No vaginal births.

Annoyingly I said how long is left and she ignored me. Then after I'd said stop and she had taken the spec out, she said she was nearly there and about to put it in. I was like FFS why didn't you answer my question then (in my head obvs) as I might have been able to hold out.
